Played a 70's series (Gms 46-48) and HAL brought Fernando Arroyo (R4 Endurance) into Gm 46 in the 8th @ F0 (prior outing was Gm 45 w/ PC-20) and Gullett in the 9th @ F0 (prior outing was Gm 44 w/ PC-124).

Then in GM 48, HAL brings in Arroyo in the 7th and he goes 3 innings @F9 w/ PC - 45 ??

I assumed HAL would start Gm1 of a new series with Arroyo and Gullet rested??

A new series does not reset reliever fatigue. The only time you have rest days are just before and during the playoffs, and those days are clearly marked on the schedule. There are no rest days during the regular season, and game 3 (and sometimes game 2) of one series affects game 1 of the next series.

Remember, if a pitcher pitches two consecutive games, he will be fatigued if he pitches in a third. (Exception: if he pitches less than a full inning in one of those two previous games.) So Arroyo almost certainly pitched in game 44 as well as game 45. He was able to pitch in game 48 unfatigued because he didn't pitch in game 47.

If a pitcher enters a game at F9, he is considered completely fresh. So, previous pitch counts won't make him get fatigued faster.

I don't know what the pitch count cutoff is where a pitcher needs more than one day of rest to become rested (which Gullet exceeded and was thus fatigued in game 46). Perhaps someone can enlighten us.

Same problem reoccurred in a DIFFERENT LEAGUE with Gullett and Arroyo - what are the odds of that?



DUCKS added Walker to 'fill-in' for Brewer's during a 15-game AB injury (which was odd?) bringing the RP staff to 5

Can not understand why 3/5 RP's fatigued and why 1/5 didn't get used at all?

Any experts out there??

Gm 112 - Arroyo enters in 7th as Setup and after 27 PC is pulled for Walker (set as RH Specialis)t who in his very 1st outing enters vs. RHB w/ F0 fatigue????? Meanwhile Gullett was set for Setup and Closer vs. RHP.

Gm 113- Arroyo enters as MM in 6th (set to Avoid LHB) and throws 6 PC. THEN, with 3 RHB's due up in the 7th, HAL brings in Walker (again enters w/ F0 fatigue??????) THEN, Gullett enters in the 9th at F0 (he had SP Gm 110 so he had 2 Gms. rest)

Gm 114- Arroyo enters in the 7th - yes at F0. Walker enters in the 8th, yes at F0 and is left in for the 9th. THEN, Gullett enters the 10th yes at F0 and finishes in the 11th - and the DUCKS won the game!

Recap:

Arroyo- PC before F0 was 27 (he is an R4????)
Walker- PC before F0 was 0 (1st appearance, he is an R3!!!!!!)
Gullett - PC before F0 was 0!!! (had not appeared since Gm 110. Expected him to enter rested????)
