How is the result determined on gbX with a runner on 1st? Is it treated like a gbA where it will automatically become a double play or is it more like gbB where the runners speed can come into effect? Or is it something else completely?

The result of a gbX is determined by the fielding chart. When a runner is being held on first the chances of a DP decrease. The 1B range increases by one as does either the 2B or SS. This depends on whether the batter is LH(SS) or RH(2B). If the runner is not being held then no adjustments are made. The runners speed and/or base running ability is not a factor in either scenario.
