https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1717791 didnt think Hal would injure a players replacement when there is no other replacement at that position

That only applies to catchers.

HAL will not let you drop below 9 hitters for DH or 8 for noDH leagues. However (with the exception for catchers mentioned above) the position is not factored in, so you can lose all carded 2B or CF for example.

Players will have to play out of position--which on the infield is a 5-fielding rating with max error rate. For the OF -- a CF can play left or right with same rating, a RF can play LF with same rating, or in CF -1 rating, and a LF can play RF -1, and CF -2. All have same throwing rating.

Though you can't put a CF only in RF in lineup page, Hal will re-arrange your OF for best fielding usually, unless your subs in lineups mess with the AI logic.

In board game rules you can make the lineups moves in OF as above, but for some reason they didn't allow it in on-line game--more for the drafting process I think as too many people will draft 3 CF and the drafting logic can't make a decent decision when you miss a player.
