Hitter/Pitcher Preferences

PostTue Aug 27, 2024 1:06 pm

I have been playing SOM for a couple years but still consider myself a newbie since I have played sporadically until recent months. One of the areas I can’t seem to decipher is the Hitter/Pitcher preferences and and how to get the most out of them OR Create a more realistic outcome from HAL in managerial decisions.

Are there any good articles/discussions/videos that have been published that helps better understand these screens and their impact?

I can’t seem to get over about 85 wins and see a lot of losses occur in late or last innings from the pitching staff and I don’t think I use preferences correctly to more efficiently advance runners for more scoring.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

So this first part will sound pretty obvious and I’m not trying to be mean or anything but a lot of it depends on the players you have and the style you would like to play. For me (and I construct a lot of the same style teams ) i have a couple different things that I do……

For pitchers I try to get at least 3 starters that are a 9 fatigue and I set all my starters to do not relieve before 0 fatigue and a slow hook. I will carry 5 rps and my settings with them are 2 righty specialist and 2 lefty and the 5th guy being a bulk inning reliever with no specific settings. Pretty much I want my starters pitching 90% of my teams innings.

For the hitters unless I’m playing small ball the only thing I’m clicking is don’t ph for and don’t pr for unless someone is a d or worse at bunting h&r and stealing. Then I’m clicking don’t for them. On my team settings I’ll usually set them all for conservative. If I’m playing small ball I’ll use bunting h&r and stealing more and I’ll try to get A’s or better than I’ll click on to do it more.

Interesting pitching strategy by Matt. I handle my pitchers differently. I get decent starters but generally not top-tier. The key is my "super reliever" who is my #1 for Middle Man, Set Up, and Closer. I like to have an okay reliever (< $2M) to back him up and a value cheap reliever for coming in when behind.

Also, anyone who isn't a B stealer, B bunter, or B hit & run is set to not do those things. If I'm playing a team with a catcher with a poor arm and lacking the starters with good hold ratings to make up for it, I'll temporarily give the C stealer the go ahead to steal for that series only.

My settings: Aggressive base running, normal hit and run, and conservative bunting and intentional walk.

PS. I deleted your duplicate post.
