Importance of good fielding shortstops

I’m considering using a three fielding shortstop (Martin Dihigo) because of his bat. Any comments would be appreciated on the pros and cons of fielding vs. hitting, especially for the shortstop position.

Thanks
.

If you're talking about his '27 card, I would be quite willing to use him at shortstop. His hitting will more than make up for his defensive liability.

Thank you for your reply. I’ll use his 1927 card.

Thanks for your reply. I do think Dihigo’s bat should help.

Without knowing anything about team contexts, I would prefer not to use Dihigo at SS. He plays a number of positions better. If you need his bat there are better places to play him. I am a bit skeptical about players out hitting there defense. IN ATG9 there are many good hitters that have decent defense at less sensitive positions. I would think there are better ways to build a lineup without using Dihigo at SS. If you using a hitters park in a high cap league then maybe. In an $80mil or $100 mil league I can't see it.

I think most players are better at evaluating hitting than they are at evaluating defense.

I appreciate your reply, and recommendation not to use Dihigo at shortstop. BTW, it is a 140M league.

The rules on holding runners are more complex than I can explain simply. In some situations, when holding runners, an infielders defensive rating is increased by 1. That means Dihigo's SS rating will sometimes be a 4. You would have trouble against a small ball team where many of its runners need to be held. I have been using Arky Vaughn, an SS with a 2e27 rating in two leagues. In one he is far worse than the other. The difference may be due to the variances in dice rolls, but it may be partly related to the different base runners in the leagues. The league where he is doing worse is $110 million league. For reference, this is per rule 23.83 in Stratomatic's printed instructions.

Bballexec,

Thanks for your advice. BTW, you mentioned “rule 23.83 printed instructions.” Could you tell me where I could find that info.

Thanks
