2017 Mystery Tourney - Final 12 Voting

Here are the items that the final 12 have voted on in the past. It has been majority rules on all the votes.


Which set? Vote for 1st choice (2 points) and 2nd choice (1 point)

Salary Cap. $80M or $100M?

DH: yes or no? Note: You can vote separately by set (e.g., no DH for 60s, but DH for 90s)

"Live" Draft (on the message boards) or Autodraft? If live, the drafting order would be based on the final overall standings with #1 in points getting the #1 pick, etc. and then snaking around for subsequent rounds (i.e., round 2 is 12, 11, 10, etc). We probably would aim for 10-12 rounds for the "live" draft (probably between 1-2 weeks), and then everyone fills out the rest of their draft cards with players not taken in the live draft. The message board draft has worked well in the past.

Unique Stadiums (i.e., everyone in the league has to have a different stadium)? Yes or No? If auto draft, probably just let owners draft stadiums based on final standings (1-12), if live draft we could include a draft pick of the stadium as part of the draft.

Repeat Stadiums (can you reuse the stadium from your prior team in that set)? yes or no?

Divisions: random divisions vs. seeded divisions (1/6/7/12; 2/5/8/11; 3/4/9/10)?

For the teams that did not make the 90s playoffs, there are no more points. For the teams in the 90's playoffs, they've already been credited with 5 points for making the playoffs. They get 5 points if they win the semi-finals and 5 more points if they win the finals (World Series). No additional points are acquired for winning a game in the playoffs. We'll know a lot more about the final 12 after the results from the semi-finals.

joeedrott lost his playoff series and cannot finish in the top 12. Jayhawk and Red Beard are both up 3-2; to qualify, they must win their playoff series and then win the world series (or a playoff loss by Betthemax). Betthemax is also up 3-2 and with one more win will join the crowd at 383. Former Mystery Tournament champ Moodywoody won his playoff series and joins the crowd at 383 and qualifies for the finals based on the first tiebreaker with his two championships (i.e., world series wins) in the 2017 mystery tournament.

Big game 7 tonight for Betthemax and Jayhawk. Lose and they are out. The Red Beards won their playoff series. If both Betthemax and Jayhawk lose, then the Red Beards make the finals and the final 12 are set.

Update: Betthemax won their series and Jayhawk lost theirs. So, Jayhawk cannot make the finals. If Red Beard loses the world series, then they do not make the finals and everyone currently ranked 1-12 is in the finals. If Red Beard wins the world series, then Red Beard is in the finals and one team in the logjam at 383 does not make the finals. The first tiebreak is championship wins in the tournament.

Since RJNewman is not in the 90s playoffs, he loses the first tiebreak. Therefore, if Red Beard wins the world series, he is in the finals, Rjnewman is out. If Red Beard loses the 90s world series, then Rjnewman is in finals.

extra comments: the last 3 tournaments have been 60s, 80s, and 70s, so I went for the cycle. In future years I vote that we simply allow repeat stadiums because they are overwhelming approved every year. There is skill involved in the autodraft, but I'm rooting for the live draft because it is fun and it is informative to see how the best managers value the players.
