Nolan Ryan 1981 - gave up the lowest amount of hr's and hits per 9 innings. I haven't seen the card but I would imagine it would be his top card.

Mike Cuellar 1966. It would be his best card and he doesn't have a Houston card.

Thanks for the post. I certainly want more Nolan Ryan and took a hard look at him. Given the slow rate of additions and the popularity vote, we have to be smart about our selections. With Ryan I feel the best card is 1991, from the Rangers. I know Andy has lobbied for that in the Rangers forum but rated Kenny Rogers as a higher priority. Rogers did not get voted in.

1981 Ryan was also lobbied for in the Rangers forum. I will remember 1981, but I for one can't rank him higher than 1991. SOM, by allowing such a slow rate of additions, pits us against ourselves. It's horrible.

I had not thought of Cuellar 1966 - that would be a nice add. I can't say I'm optimistic he will be voted in if Turk Farrell didn't get voted in.

Well, we got the highest pitcher vote getter in JR Richard. I knew he would be popular (sorry to keep using that word Andy, but SOM gave us a popularity contest). Spiers finished dead last, which is sad. People clamor for players with no card, and utility players, and he had a 919 OPS playing every infield position. He may never even be eligible for a vote again.

Well, the people voted in Ron Hunt instead, so I guess the country has to get behind him now ;)

1. Richard Hidalgo 2000, no card in 9 year career. 314/391/636
2. Octavio Dotel 2002 – no card in 15 year career, 98 innings as a reliever, with a .88 whip and 11 k/9
3. Moises Alou 2000 – only one card in set, none as Astro, nice upgraded card to 355/416/623.
4- Turk Farrell 1963 – only one card in set, as a pure reliever, but he was a legitimate starter, .97 whip in 202 innings [I have to believe this is a better pitching card than Oswalt’s 1.169, Ryan’s 1.121 (for Ryan I think his best year, as a Ranger, should be the choice for this addition) or Sutton’s 1.015 (note the nomination should be 1981, as he played for LA in 1980)
5 - Bill Spiers 1997, no card in 13 year career. Nice utility option at every infield position 320/438/481
6 - Morgan Ensberg 2005 no card in 8 year career. A nice third base option, finished fourth in MVP 283/388/557
7 - Mike Cuellar 1966 1.078 whip 6.9 k/9 An Astros card
8 - Bob Watson 1976 2 other cards .313 .377 .458 11th in MVP
9- Roger Metzger 1973. Part of Astros history, this was his gold glove year, and he led the league with 14 triples. His 622 OPS and 74 OPS+ is horrific, but with over 600 PAs at least he will show up to your low cap team every day.
10 - Nolan Ryan 1981 Popular demand. led league in ERA, 1.121 whip, 8.8 k/9. The only reason I rank him so low is that I think he deserves to be added as a Ranger in 1991.
