White Sox Additions

Early thoughts on White Sox additions:

1/ Fielder Jones. 1908 season (member of the great WS team). Yes, we have a card of his, but the '08 season was perhaps his best (his best in terms of OPS+, 121 -- remember the league slash average was .239/.294/.304, Jones' was .258/.366/.304), great defensive range even at 36 years old, still good speed. Not an explosive add, but definitively a very good addition. 49th greatest CFer ever in terms of JAWS ranking.

2/ Ray Schalk. 1915 season. Again, we alreadly have three cards of his. But the 1915 season is a good one -- 105 OPS+ (his best), bashes lhp (.325/.455/.397) probably a 6L, and great defense. 41st greatest catcher by JAWS standards.

3/ Smead Jolley. 1930 season. A few-season wonder. A dh before his time (3 errors on one play). .313/.346/.492. Even in a season when everybody hit, Jolley was a great hitter. 38 doubles, 12 triples, 16 homers. And lord knows the pre-War White Sox could use some hitting in the outfield...actually anywhere.

4/ Jackie Hayes. 1936 season. The season we have of his is not really representative for this long-time White Sox secondbaseman. .312/.366/.444 slash line, a slew of doubles, plays 2B, 3B, SS. RH hitter who looks to be a 5 or 6R (always a consideration).

5/ Johnny Dickshot. 1945 season. His only great season (his last season).127 OPS+. Probably not the greatest defensive whiz of all-time, but see comments on Jolley about hitting for the Pre-War White Sox. RH outfielder, probably a 2 or 3L.

6/ Luis Aparicio. 1970 season. Yes, we have three of his cards already, but this is the season where offensively he put it all together (the only time in his career above 100 OPS+). May have lost a step or two by this year, but still a nice card http://365.strat-o-matic.com/player/730257/1670/1/70

7/ Carlos Lee. 2004 season. Big, bruising rh outfielder, would be a nice addition to the EXP White Sox. .305/.366/.525, the usual 30+ homers, 37 doubles, surprising speed. RH hitter, probably a 1 or 2L.

8/ Paul Konerko. 2006 season. Not sure why we went with the 2002 season, when the 2005 or 06 would have been better. Good power, high average. A 1 or 2L.

Didn't realize it until Bill, posted this, but we voted IN the 2005 Konerko, but got the 2002 Konerko.

Oh boy. I just double-check my list to them to make sure I didn't submit the wrong year but no I sent 2005. At some point I guess we get another Konerko for free. I'll send them a note now and see if its something they can add in John's absence.

Do we even have the best Baines card? I guess it is, maybe it's just the pricing. No way that card is worth 6 bucks.

1966: 12-10 1.98 0.982 WHIP, League leader in ERA, WHIP
1967: 16-11 2.28 1.069 WHIP, 2nd in ERA, led league in fewest hits per 9 innings
1963: 19-8 2.33 1.070 WHIP, Rookie of the Year, league leader in ERA

Gary Peters was one of the finest lefty pitchers in baseball for a brief period in the 1960s before being diagnosed with a torn labrum sometime in 1968. Despite such, he pitched through it, but was never the same thereafter. A fine hitter, who often pinch hit for the punchless White Sox and even batted as high as 6th in one of Eddie Stanky's lineups, he was consistently in numerous top 10 pitching categories. He is one of the few ERA title qualifying starting pitchers from the 1960s with a season ERA of under 2.00 who doesn't have an ATG SOM card for that season. (1968 Tommy John and 1968 Bobby Bolin are the others.)

Note the similarity between Peters' 1966 card (minus the strikeouts) and Chris Sale's 2014 ATG card.

I am a White Sox fan, and would love to see either the 1979, or 1977 Chet Lemon card.. growing up he was only player that could make the AL all star team from some awful teams..

The 1979 Lemon card was put forth in a previous vote. I'll keep nominating him. Exp White Sox need CF

His 1977 card would have to wear softball shorts, so 1979 is definitely the pick.
