From recent sets, for middle infielders, how about:
2008 Mike Fontenot (a 2e12 at 2B, a doubles machine -- against lefties doubles on 2-5,2-6,2-7, and nary a GB(a)). 2009 Troy Tulowitski (1e10) 2012 Robinson Cano (the (in)famous 8R card) 2016 DJ Lemehieu 2016 Jose Altuve 2016 Brian Dozier
1966 Jack Aker 1917 Fred Anderson 2013 Luis Avilan 2007 Heath Bell 1968 Bobby Bolin 1971 Jim Brewer 1907/1909 Mordecai Brown 1946 Earl Caldwell 1917 Eddie Cicotte 1992 Cal Eldred 1992 Mike Fetters 2013 Matt Harvey 1950 Jim Hearn 1967 Joe Horlen 1915 Tom Hughes 2014/2016 Clayton Kershaw 1909 Harry Krause 1908 George McQuillan 1986 Rob Murphy 1906 Barney Pelty 1968 Vincente Romo 1989 Jeff Russell 2003 Jason Schmidt 1965 Sonny Siebert 1908 Frank Smith 1909/1908 Ed Walsh 1919 Babe Adams 2008 Grant Balfour 2004 Armando Benitez 1987 Tim Burke 2002 Octavio Dotel 1908 Christy Mathewson 2006 B.J. Ryan 1966 Hoyt Wilhelm 1905 Cy Young 2009 Mike Adams 2010 Hong-Chih Kuo 1991 Nolan Ryan
There doesn't seem to be too much of a shortage of possiblities--
now a few of these guys Ive looked at the cards-- and unfortunately the cards don't match the stats, or even close. I usually look first at the OBP of the hitter vs. the card and see a big discrepancy in some cases, but having said that, we do the best with what we got.
How about Gabby Hartnett's two best years (35' and 37') when he was 1st and 2nd in the MVP voting? Catcher is definitely a position where more options are needed especially at the upper echelons.
Heilman's top season where he hit .403 Our Ed Roush card is no where near his best season. We are missing Bonds' two top OPS+ seasons. Sosa's best season. Aaron's two best homerun per at bat seasons 1971 and 1973. Stargell 1973 Mariano Rivera's best season. George Davis's best season. Kershaw's historic 2016 whip season. He is a non-asterisk which puts him in the class of the 9.28 Pedro card.
Dixie Walker 1944 Harry Walker 1947 Heine Manush 1928 Paul Waner 1928 Johnny Mize 1939 Harry Rice 1925 Cy Semour 1905 Edd Roush 1923 Heine Zimmerman 1912 George Stone 1906 Travis Hafner 2006 Gary Sheffield 2000 Sherry Magee 1910 Albert Belle 1994 Vlad Guerrero 2000 Richard Hidalgo 2000 Carlos Pena 2007 Derek Lee 2005 Rudy York 1937 Duke Snider 1954
I've been thinking for several days that we don't have Duke Snider's best season: 1954. We definitely need that one. Actually I like ShakeyBoomers whole list.
