We certainly have a choice of catchers so far -- 5 out of 14 nominations -- Leyritz, Gomes, Salkeld (who bats left-handed -- I had been hoping that he threw left-handed), Campanella, and Sanguillen (nice choice, Hack...I had thought about him, too...the year that Manny learned to take a walk!). Twenty-six more opportunities to nominate a few more backstops!

Thanks, george barnard, for kind words on Sanguillen. Growing up in Pittsburgh, I had a baby sitter who lived next to Manny and I always asked her what's he doing etc? Loved the guy, he was integral to the Pirates of the 1970s. :D

When you consider that Manny didn't even start playing baseball until he was 19, it makes his accomplishments even greater. Here is the link to a great article from 1972. We really were blessed by some great catchers.

Please note our usage parameters for nominations -
Minimums:
300 PA

AL/NL cards from 1876-2022 are eligible.

Our 24.2 parameters are as follows.
1. One nomination per member only
2. When we hit 39 unique nominations we will begin voting (after Andy posts card analysis)
3. We will have one poll of 50 cards; the top 25 will be added
4. Next "x" highest vote getters will get another shot in 24.3

Please submit nominations in a 'Year Player Team Position Comments' format.
