my nominations are supporting Blue Jays players:
1. 2003 Vernon WELLS- Jays need a usable CF-this is best Jays CF season ever
2. 2006 BJ RYAN- great season and Jays need a good lefty reliever

sometimes common sense is not all that common. no texiera...maybe that Horace clark card would be of better use!!! does anyone use these cards? the people who submitted their names should have to use them for an entire calendar year.

meanwhile....thanks for some of the hard work and research on some of the submissions so far. my approach and hope for new cards is:
1. ALL TIME greats using their best season.
2. Cards for players who have zero cards so far...lets have texiera/wells etc before another McGwire or bench card.
3. More cards for franchises that do not have many...rockies/marlins/dbacks....no more Yankees for a while.
4. If the card is under a certain value (less than 3m?), is it an alltime great?

you're missing the context in which those cards were added, and correct ATG no longer means All Time Greats...it really means, a place where All Time Greats play. As you know ATG now consists of many franchise and ERA leagues that have holes. We made an effort to add low end role players to 17.1 as there is a lack of them in ATG to fill those holes, use at lower caps and in the franchise and ERA leagues I mentioned above.

Pumpsie Green was added due to his historical significance as the first black player for the Red Sox, the last team to integrate.

You get one nomination and its late, but since we haven't started the voting process and we're short of the 100 we'll add it. Wells or Ryan?

Visick already nominated 2003 Wells

So you'd rather have no subs that cost below 3m?? The AllTime Greats can't play if there are no AllTime SUBS to fill out a roster.

Thanks for the eyes Andy - I thought Wells was nominated already I just hadn't reviewed the list today.

I don't really see how someone can bash Pumpsie Green and Wayne Causey for not being great and then nominate B.J. Ryan.

Only Ryan's family thought he was great.

sorry, can't help myself, there's statistically great and then there's great in the memories of the fans of the teams specifically and the game generally.

(yeah, yeah, I get the connotation that All-Time great suggests a Cooperstown plaque, or someone denied a plaque for having been expelled from MLB or a Negro-leaguer who coulda and probably woulda)

but, let's be honest, if you chewed Topps bubblegum, you remember these guys, and, just my opinion, that's enough reason for them to be here,

I mean I STILL hate the '69 Mets, but I am glad that Garrett, Weiss, and Gaspar are in the player set.

I sorta wish Coco Laboy was in too. (if you remember the '69 NL expansion, admit it, you want his card in the player set)

We are playing a game...the cards mean NOTHING if no-one plays the cards...send a card to pumpsie greens family. Lee lacy has 2 cards but some hall of famers have 1. my point is lets add cards that get played, not ones that we pat ourselves on the back because of their historical significance. you ask for pumpsie green because it makes you tear up? great, use the card then. I rarely see some of these emotional selections actually being used.

I have requested Blue Jay cards because I try to use that franchise in franchise leagues so that the cards actually get used. And that BJ RYAN card was a great season. Lavelle or Cerutti are not even usable cards.

And Rosie, WELLS was already nominated (2006 instead of 2003 card). So if WELLS is nominated I nominate the RYAN card please.

Yeah,
agree with Toronto50 here-- and its the same reason using 25 cards for an entire team doesn't make sense.

Cards are only good if they are used, and while it might be nice to have an entire team, many of those cards will never get played--
which is why the one person- one nomination system is much more fair.

IF BJ Ryan's card gets used b/c of either a) franchise need for a closer b)lockdown lefty RP etc. then it serves a purpose.

Its also why I suggested 50 nominations for 25 cards b/c it increases he chances that someone nominating a useful fringe type player will get in.

Personally, I don't see the need for all of the venom. The cards were VOTED in as part of a cheap role-player add. You need cheap cards in the set to fill out your bench and as platoon players in low-cap leagues. And to a lot of people the cards do mean something. I think we should have a card for every player with 5 years in MLB.
