Evidently a few people feel that too many post-2000 season cards are comprising the players added to ATG.

My answer to that is simple. The cards that get added do so because they are supported by the community in a fair and open process. Everyone has the opportunity to voice their opinions on the boards to lobby voters to cast ballots, but the results are what they are.

I find it quite tiresome that if folks don't get their way, then solutions get proposed to force the community to do what the vocal few want instead of what the community clearly wants. We just got out from under that more dictatorial approach and have had excellent results with BC15NY not trying to impose his will on the process, but letting the community freely decide.

My five picks from winning the recent Barnstormers were all from pre-1990 cards except for Alex Gordon who has been overlooked to date. So I'm not taking sides as to what cards I want to get voted in, I'm just inveighing against attempting to circumvent the will of the community because some folks don't get their way with the cards they want added.

My personal preferences do not include the addition of rosters of expansion teams because I don't enjoy playing franchise leagues. But you don't see me trying to impose my will on that issue, enough people in the community want those additions and so they get them.

I believe it's worth noting that 16 of the 25 cards voted in from 19.1 were from seasons of over 30 years ago, including these 8 pre-1967 cards.

1954 Ted Kluszewski Reds 1B
1899 John McGraw Bal 3B
1963 Hank Aaron MIL RF
1937 Joe DiMaggio NYY CF
1888 Silver King StL RHP
1966 Willie Stargell PIT OF/1b
1950 Eddie Yost WSH 3B
1920 Happy Felsch CWS CF

And another 16 were voted in from 19.2, including the 10 pre-1967 cards below.

1962 Frank Robinson CIN LF/RF
1923 Tris Speaker CLE OF
1960 Lindy McDaniel STL P
1937 Zeke Bonura CWS 1B
1936 Lou Gehrig NYY 1B
1947 Harry Walker PHI OF
1948 Harry Brecheen STL SP
1966 Bob Locker CWS RP
1961 Eddie Mathews MLN 3b
1917 Ty Cobb DET OF

My thinking is it's best to let the community nominate and vote in the cards they most want to see added to the set, regardless of era.

If we were getting nothing but 2000 season and up cards, that might be different, but clearly that isn't the case. I think we are seeing a nice variety of cards so far.

Thanks,
Bill

I’m not necessarily against 2000s cards, and have voted for some of them. My comment was based on the fact that the 2000s cards seem to often dominate as the top vote-getters, sometimes making it harder to get in other cards, like the Pepper Martin card I nominated.

It is worth noting that, so far, 7 of the top 10 vote-getters in the current vote are 2000s cards. And this won’t be the first time that has occurred. 19.1 added 8 2000s players, 19.2 added 10, and this current vote will land about the same number. So, while 2000s cards are not the only ones nominated/voted in, they do tend to dominate relative to other time periods. Again, I’m not putting down adding 2000s cards per se, just stating that they make it somewhat harder to add in other eras.

Overall, the card add process is a fun process. Everyone has a vote and everyone has an opinion.

I also think Strat needs to separate the Expansion set, it now comprises 50 years worth of cards.

I couldn't agree more. I have inquired about that a couple of times myself. Hopefully one of these days we will see that happen.

The current process where everyone has the chance to have a say is massively improved over one person deciding what the priorities are for everyone.

lets keep rolling with the good things we've got- there often isn't enough of it.

I have mentioned this a couple of times in the Card Discussions, but seemed never to attract any attention. I think the onus of adding post 2000 cards should be on Strat, perhaps creating a post 2000 subset. I think our community as a whole connects better with more modern players.

I prefer to nominate more historical players, or players that I might have a connection to. These generally have little appeal to the masses. However, I do support the current method of nominating players; as it does allow me a voice.

I do thank you for your efforts. Maybe we could prod Strat to produce a more modern subset. They already have the cards.

You know who's pre-2000?? The 98 Duque Card that's who! Can any one of these guys say they braved shark infested waters in a rickety boat to end up pitching in a World Series:

I don't think so. Final Push! He needs around 15 votes!

I voted for El Duque, Burgess, Tettleton, and Chavez. I nominated Smoky but the rest were some of my favorite players growing up. Definitely want them in the set.
