Andy - not as enthused about cards during the war years given the major dilution of talent making "stars" out of otherwise marginal players.

I have a fair sense of who has done what in baseball history and I never even heard of any of these guys.

I agree about the dilution. However, Franchise ideas and Era ideas often overlap, and most of those ideas are intended to help weaker PreWar Franchhise Groupings.

Mel Ott 1938. I'm sorry I didn't think of this sooner. 311/442/583 with 113 games at 3b.

Also, and I'm sure will be a polarizing suggestion - Rogers Hornsby 1917. He led the league in slugging and OPS as a SS 327/385/484. He played 100% as a SS, with above average RF/9 and fielding percentage

Ah baseball history 1942 world series 9th inning dodgers lead 4-3. Two out ...hugh casey the pitcher mickey owens the catcher....heinrich the batter. Casey throws strike three. Game over but wait Owens misses the pitch. Heinrich to first. Then King Kong Keller swings and lauches homerun to win 5-4
