Now that we are adding 50 new individual cards, let's revisit the original concept of adding teams. This would:
- Balance out some franchises with poor (or very limited) options today,
- Improve availability by era, and
- Add to pool of spare parts for lower cap leagues
Recommended additions could include:
NEWER FRANCHISES
- Arizona Diamondbacks 1999 or 2001
- Colorado Rockies 2007 or 2009
- Florida Marlins 1997 or 2003
- Tampa Bay Rays 2008
EXPANSION ERA
- Baltimore Orioles 1969 (109 wins)
- New York Yankees 1998 (114 wins)
POST-WAR ERA
- Boston Braves 1948 (91 wins)
- Minnesota Twins 1965 (102 wins)
PRE-WAR ERA
- Detroit Tigers 1934 (101 wins)
- Philadelphia Athletics 1931 (107 wins)
DB ERA
- Boston Red Sox 1912 (105 wins)
- New York Giants 1904 (106 wins)
19TH CENTURY TEAMS WITH 2,000+ WINS
- Baltimore Orioles 1896
- Louisville Colonels 1890
NEGRO LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
- Chicago American Giants 1920 (1st NNL champs)
- Homestead Grays 1943 (won Negro World Series in Gibson's finest year)
- Kansas City Monarchs 1924 (1st Negro World Series champs)
- Pittsburgh Crawfords 1935 (reputed to be the best team ever, of any color, with 5 future Hall of Famers)

Great ideas...Let's start with the 2008 Rays, then cover the other three newer franchises...

Have no problem with the add whole team concept, especially the newer franchises and weak older representations, but....
'69 Orioles are probably adequately represented already, and the Yankees certainly have more than enough.
And please no more NEL or 19th century teams or Japanese teams or Cuban teams....they do not belong.

I certainly would hope to see one or two NeL teams, but when folks at SOM published the NeL guide, they wrote that they had insufficient seasonal data to make annual NeL strat cards with the level of accuracy SOM needs to reflect all tendencies needed for the Strat card; this is why the actual NeL cards are not based on any individual season, but on a player's seven best seasons...
I would vote for the 1931 As otherwise...would love to see them play against the 1927 Yankees

Quite frankly I find it incredibly odd that we wouldn't include more NeL players because we aren't sure of some stats, yet at the same time not insist that the game engine work more accurately and consistently.
Or for that matter, that certain cards we currently have don't accurately portray a players stats--
We all have examples from Defense ranges being off, to cards that don't look anything like the numbers;
So yeah, I can't get with the thought that we shouldn't have MORE NeL players--
all those individual seasons belong in the set; and if you don't wanna play with em, then don't.

From the broken record department:
Wouldn't it be nice to have an MLB-only Set, that consisted of only MLB cards from 1894-present, for those who play franchise leagues or those who only want to use MLB cards for a specific theme AND ALSO an Unleashed Set, which would add NeL cards, pre-1894 cards, Sadaharo Oh if you want him, other Japanese cards, those Cuban cards SOM wanted to add a few years ago, and outlier MLB cards like that 1957 Hurricane Bob Hazle card, as well as the Gates Brown's, Ken Smith's, and Roger Freed's of the world. Best of both worlds for both sets of the community.
Salty, I understand the "just don't play with them" argument, but SOM already does the Unleashed Sets for the 20xx games. Why cant they do it for ATG?

Exactly, Rob -- it would be simple to top off a number of teams that are almost full now, with 18-24 players already in the set

Another vote for the 2008 Rays.
