Analysis of Card Add 16.1

Hi All - Yes sorry a little bit of a ATG Card Add hiatus.

Here's the breakdown of the 16.1 card add. And so that we all know which add we are referring to I'll use the old software revision technique and throw the year.# of add as our reference point...which gives us 16.1

So 16.1 yielded the following:
21 cards from EXP+ (2000-2015)
15 cards from EXP (1967 - 1999)
8 cards from Post War
4 cards from Pre War
2 cards from Dead Ball

10 Pitchers
40 Hitters

26 cards for a new Franchise
3 cards enabled a carded player for a new position
18 cards were for players without a current card in ATG - so 18 net new
17 cards for players with one current card
12 cards for players with two current cards

Franchise Breakdown, ranked by new $$ Added...the line below reads TOTAL CARDS ADDED/TOT $$ ADDED/NEW CARDS ADDED/NEW $$ ADDED. One set of numbers means both sets where the same. 0 = No New $$/New Cards added, just already carded players getting another card.

Overall seems pretty good with a decent franchise spread. EXP and Position player heavy, so something to consider for 16.2. As for 16.2 at a high level we can do the following:
1. Add the next 25 vote getters from 16.1
2. Add one historically significant 25 man roster not yet represented in ATG
3. Focus on a few underrepresented Franchises
4. Focus on missing players; such as any missing Cy Young winners or MVP's or record holders...
5. Do exactly what we did last time

My opinion is we focus 16.2 based on what we got in 16.1. So more pitchers (maybe 15/10 ratio), lean toward older cards (15/10). feedback?

The one note I took down during this process that made me pause was, should we add cards that best represent a players career or his best year. My answer to myself (yes I have those conversations sometimes) was ultimately both, so that sounds like yet another spreadsheet, nice! We also have the issue brought up by (who I can't recall sorry for the lack of publicity) regarding adding those lower end cards, the ones that help you fill out that roster. I believe the answer was by adding a whole team you get by default those bench guys, not sure how else to get that done, but I do think its something that needs to be batted about.

I'll be starting two additional topics this ATG Card Discussion forum to help (at least I think it will) focus the discussion...and yes I did come up with these titles all by myself.

Let's plan on determining our direction by late next week...so we can dive into the card discussions/voting and have something ready for John at SOM by mid Nov.

1/ I, for one, wouldn't want to add them directly; let them fight it out with new choices.

2/ We have an opportunity to add 125 cards per year in four batches. One of those batches should be given over to adding a complete team. Up to us to determine when and which team/year.

3/ This could certainly be taken care of with point 2.

4/ I would be all for this (at least proposing the names along with other choices). Given, though, the discussion opening you have suggested in the Hitters and Pitchers threads, we would appear to be limited in our choices (no doubling of those already in the set, no one who is reasonably close to playing MLB today (face it, guys, as much as I love Cutch, he's probably never going to be an MVP again, so why not let him in?).

5/ See point 2.

As for lower end players (scrubs, bench players, 50 cent guys -- all of whom could whip our butts at baseball!), sure, they're going to get in if we vote in whole teams, but there are some wonderful examples of players who could help out in lower caps or in platoons or who are utility players who won't get in because they didn't necessarily play for the right team at the right time.

Just to level set, SOM has committed to 100 cards per year across 3 batches, two 25's and one 50. We of course will lobby for more but that's the current cadence.

I too thought it was 125 card per year, based on your previous post. What changed? I must have missed that. But if they said 125, we should hold them to that.

SOM has agreed (yes I realize they have agreed before so please hold your collective sigh) to add 125 cards per year across 4 adds. The cadence will be something like Nov, Feb, May, Aug with the summer add being 50 cards.

Now its up to us to determine the theme of this 50 card add. I'll post that poll later tonight.

Everyone that has signed up for a Franchise or ERA, thank you. If you haven't already please start those separate posts to open up the collaboration about the cards you want to promote for nomination, this post will get way to cumbersome with posts about ALL the ERA's and Franchises. This should be done regardless of which way our theme goes for this add...as it will set us up well for future adds.

As a good starting point Andy is organizing Bill's spreadsheet per grouping and it will be available for all ambassadors to leverage here soon. Tks Andy and tks Bill and tks to all that participated in those votes in the years gone by.

I think we need to vote first on whether or not this batch will be a team of 25, or individuals. If team, let's get nominations and then vote. If individuals, each ambassador can pick 3-5 for each franchise group and we can vote from there. At four adds per year, the next batch should come in November, so we should start the process now.

I note that you list of the card add 16.1 broken down by franchise neglected to list those franchises that got ZERO adds last time, like the Astros.

No, that's the point. Bill was quoting you.

Your post (and you must have been told this by SOM) is at the bottom of page 13 of the Get into the Discussion Thread. 455 on December 23 - you might have been elbow deep in egg nog at that time. But seriously, that's the only reason we think we (you included) were promised 125.
