EXPANSION (1967-1998) Catcher & 1b--NO CARD Edition

PostThu Feb 28, 2019 10:06 pm

Many have said that we don't know what we are getting when we nominate cards, so I've taken some time to put some stats together from some cards, using Diamond Dope and Veterans 1975 for the park, since it's kind of neutral (10,10,10,10). I asked Bill for his permission/blessing to do this. So I'll be posting some card add ideas, thoughts, etc to hopefully keep interest up and give folks some stuff to actually discuss on the boards.

1990 Sid Bream, PIT, Bats-L, 1R Balance, 1b-2e12
LH--12.3 2b, 1.7 3b, 2.3 HR, 3 BB 271/298/486, .783 OPS
RH--4.5 2b, 0 3b, 6.8 HR, 15 BB 307/416/579, .995 OPS
Important part of late 80s/early 90s Pirates and Braves, don't see how he could get ANY triples but there they are. Those early 1990s Min-Dynasty Pirates that came of age in 1990 are not well-represented in Strat.

1990 Brian Harper, MIN, Bats-R, 2L Balance, C-3(0)e4, 1b-4e25, 3b-4e37
LH--20.8 2b, 1 3b, 2.8 HR, 0 BB 356/374/651, 1.025 OPS
RH--9 2b, 1 3b, 1.3 HR, 0 BB 315/334/456, .790 OPS
Twins Catcher from 1991 World Series, no card, and some really good doubles numbers.

1979 Mike Ivie, SF, Bats-R, 6L Balance, 1b-2e8, 3b-4e37, 2b-4e41, LF-4(+2)e16
LH--7.3 2b, 0.5 3b, 18.8 HR, 3 BB 392/415/1014, 1.429 OPS
RH--3 2b, 0.5 3b, 7.8 HR, 15 BB 272/380/570, .950 OPS
Giants and Padres first sacker, check out those HR vs LHP.

1975 Mike Jorgensen, MON, Bats-L, 2R Balance, 1b-1e9, LF/RF-3(0)e6, CF-4(0)e6
LH--0.5 2b, 0 3b, 1.3 HR, 11 BB 255/351/299, .651 OPS
RH--3.3 2b, 0 3b, 6 HR, 22 BB 257/429/513, .942 OPS
Slick-fielding 1970s 1b who almost lost his life to beanball in 1979. Plays multiple spots, would probably be a very cheap alternative.

1995 Eric Karros, LA, Bats-R, 1R Balance, 1b-3e8
LH--2 2b, 2.5 3b, 3.6 HR, 10 BB 359/431/545, .975 OPS
RH--5.7 2b, 0 3b, 11 HR, 13 BB 344/435/760, 1.195 OPS
Consistent power source for Dodgers for 12 seasons, good HR numbers vs RHP, cheaper power 1b for a RH park, and an add that should be made based on his longevity.

1996 Ryan Klesko, ATL, Bats-L, 7R Balance, 1b-4e25, LF-4(+1)e7
LH--0 2b, 0.6 3b, 2 HR, 5 BB 175/220/245, .465 OPS
RH--2.6 2b, 0.8 3b, 11.6 HR, 14 BB 312/407/730, 1.138 OPS
His 1999 card is a 9R, but this one is just as good vs RHP and actually has a couple of hits vs LHP. Good platoon option for Braves of the 90s.

1991 Hal Morris, CIN, Bats-L, 4R Balance, 1b-4e12, LF-4(+1)e25
LH--11.9 2b, 1.2 3b, 0.2 HR, 3 BB 275/295/415, .711 OPS
RH--8.6 2b, 0 3b, 4.4 HR, 8 BB 419/462/637, 1.099 OPS
A lot of 1990s minor stars have gotten left out in the stampede to add 2000s cards. Might have been a star had he not been injured so often. That line vs RHP looks pretty strong.....

1978 Otto Velez, TOR, Bats-R, 7L Balance, 1b-4e25, LF/RF-4(+1)e8
LH--6.4 2b, 2 3b, 8.2 HR, 26 BB 347/516/784, 1.301 OPS
RH--3.8 2b, 0 3b, 0 HR, 20 BB 108/290/152, .442 OPS
Selected by Blue Jays in the Expansion Draft from Yankees, he actually was Player of the Month in the Blue Jays' FIRST EVER MONTH, April 1977. (.442/.531/.865, 5 HR, 18 RBI in April). THIS card is a very nice 7L Balance for some good platoons.

1984 Greg Walker, CWS, Bats-L, 7R Balance, 1b-3e8
LH--2.5 2b, 0 3b, 2.5 HR, 16 BB 113/252/223, .475 OPS
RH--10 2b, 0.3 3b, 9.8 HR, 3 BB 349/373/731, 1.104 OPS
Nice stick for the 1980s White Sox, nice 1b platoon vs RHP, cheaper than Pasqua.

1979 John Wockenfuss, DET, Bats-R, 9L Balance, C-4(+2)e1, 1b-4e7, LF/RF-4(0)e7
LH--4.1 2b, 0.6 3b, 15.5 HR, 10 BB 305/382/844, 1.227 OPS
RH--0.1 2b, 0 3b, 0.1 HR, 2 BB 150/181/154, .335 OPS
An oft-requested player, hopefully that Catcher defense would drag his price down enough to make him a GREAT platoon option at DH/1b, maybe even OF corner.
