Not to be (again) outdone by the A's, the Tigers have acquired David Price in a three-way trade involving the Mariners. All the particulars haven't been announced. However, the trade as it stands has Detroit sending Austin Jackson to the Mariners and Drew Smyly to the Rays, the Ray's sending Price to the Tigers, and the Mariners sending Nick Franklin to the Rays.
Since the trade isn't finished, I'm reserving judgment. However, considering they had asked for Joc Pederson and Corey Seager from the Dodgers for Price, Smyly and Franklin would be a paltry return for him. The Mariners and Tigers, however, have to be stoked. The Tigers get another ace/#2 guy to better match up with Oakland at the cost of a defensive center fielder who strikes out too much and a #4 starter. The Mariners get that center fielder to monitor Safeco's expansive outfield for the cost of an infielder with no future with their team.
