Mixing *SP with non * Sp

PostMon Aug 18, 2014 1:47 pm

I was wondering what were peoples thoughts on having say 2-3 *SP with 1-2 non *SP. It would on the surface seem to be maybe wasting money unless one of the non's were a very low value....just interested in any thoughts...

I do it all the time. Ideally I would say the best way is with 1 * SP and 4 non, but I have done it with 2 * & 3 non and even 3 * and 2 non SP. Sometimes you just cannot find 4 * SP that fit your team.

My current active team is using the 1 * sp and 4 Non * SP model.

Here is a link to a successful (moderately) team with 3 * SP and 2 non.

I pretty much agree with what ArrylT said. However, I put certain restrictions on it.

My most common is 1 SP* and four SP. However, I usually only do this if the SP* is a stud and none of the SPs are studs.

I used 3 SP* once or twice. In this case, the 2 SP pitchers (who each only pitch every 8 games) must be low cost, bargain pitchers.

If I have a really good SP (no star), I never mix SP*s into my rotation.

It's ideal to go all SP* or all SP, but the pitchers that are available may tip the scales in favor of a limited mix sometimes.

I've always tried to go plan A 4 SP* route or plan B 5 non-SP* route, but...when it comes to playoff time, I've really struggled in game 5s with my #5 going head to head with someone's #1. I've adopted the 1 SP* 5M+, 4 non-SP* as the plan B.
