Sheffield favorite Jeter moment

PostSun Sep 28, 2014 2:10 pm

Watching MLB on deck and they are paying tribute to Derek Jeter. Sheffield and Pedro are asked to give their favorite Jeter moments.

Sheffield tells about that time Joe Nameth came in to the game, and he was a great closer, and he bounced one ......
Hit rerun and listened several times.

My memory must not be as good as I thought. I do not remember when Joe Nameth was a great closer. Assume it was some time after his QB days with the Jets.

I can see where one might confuse Rivera and Nameth. So much similarity in names and appearance.

But in the context of his statement Jeter was predicting a yankee come from behind win against some great closer who bounced a pitch resulting in a yankee win demonstrating Jeter's near prophet like skills. So I assume Nameth was a closer for an opposing team. I suppose one could use the logic Nameth played for the Jets which is sort of like the Mets, both in rhyme and being the "other" NY team.
