Yes, he was 15, which led to the nullification of his contract and a one-year suspension of the Dodgers' Dominican Republic operations. The bigger question for me is how the Dodgers could have let Beltre walk after a year where he hit .334/.388/.629 with 48 homers and 121 Rbis. Could they not have topped 5 years, 64 mil?
Beltre did go on to be a bit of a bust in Seattle. However, I think that was part Safeco and part the pressure on him being "The Man" for the M's. Beltre is not a particularly strong, outgoing personality.
