Cool lists, Paul, but I've gotta disagree with your negative summation of the songs of the 90's. The 90's was a fun decade of Frat parties, surfing, and raves for me; so I am biased. However, it was an awesome decade for Rock, Hip-Hop, and (maybe too much) Electronica. Here are some universally regarded 90's songs--not just my favorites--that could easily qualify as "Koufaxs" and "Johnsons". They are definitely not "Lerchs" or Kekiches"...;)

Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana ------------Wonderwall by Oasis
Losing My Religion by REM---------------------Scar Tissue by The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Lithium by Nirvana----------------------------------Watcha Want by The Beastie Boys
Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana------------------Black by Pearl Jam
Head Like a Hole by Nine Inch Nails---------Criminal by Fiona Apple
Better Man by Pearl Jam-------------------------Violet by Hole
One by U2---------------------------------------------Save Me by Aimee Mann
Closer by Nine Inch Nails-------------------------1979 by Smashing Pumpkins
Nightswimming by REM---------------------------Bullet with Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins
Sabotage by The Beastie Boys----------------Untitled and Unsung by Belly
Enter Sandman by Metallica--------------------Lakini's Juice by Live
Sad But True by Metallica------------------------All I Want by Toad the Wet Sprocket
Creep by Radiohead--------------------------------Stan by Eminem
Paranoid Android by Radiohead----------------Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley
Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead-------------Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley
November Rain by Guns and Roses----------Sober by Tool
Everlong by The Foo Fighters-------------------Interstate Love Song by Stone Temple Pilots
Would by Alice in Chains-------------------------Girlfriend by Matthew Sweet
Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden---------Never Said by Liz Phair
The Ghost of Tom Joad by Bruce Springsteen---Connection by Elastica
Hash Pipe by Weezer----------------------------Common People by Pulp
Human Behavior by Bjork.

If you haven't heard any of these, I would definitely suggest your checking them out.

Got to love the shoutout for The Bends, Radiohead's forgotten classic and truest rocker. I also love to see the Pumpkins get some love; both those albums were alt-rock gems. And I haven't heard Izzy Stradlin's name for 25 years, but he was G & R's Blues heart, and they were never the same without him.
