Strether: you can impose realism on the "innings gap" question by limiting the number of innings a 50 IP starter can throw in a season. But that's another subject.

Limiting the number of innings a SP pitches would require a replacement of the current simulation. It would also be a substantial hamper on gameplay. Most, if not all, players don't want to worry about their players' maximum "playing time" when making lineups and planning strategies every night. Your "mode" of addressing the unrealistic SP's innings your initial plan would cause would make them do that.

So, since limiting sp's innings is neither a feasible nor a desirable option, your plan for eliminating *Sps would not help SOM mimic the "what is" factor. As I said earlier, you'd simply be creating one unreality by erasing another. Your proposal would enhance realism by cutting down unrealistic IPs totals of many starters. However, you would also reduce realism by having SPs who pitched much fewer MLB innings pitching similar innings to SP's who pitched many.
