Why do many relievers also have an "S1" designation??

I have a silly question.

In the ratings guide, for some reason, there are a slew of (otherwise relief) pitchers who have S1 in their endurance.

Is this just a glitch? Or -- for some bizarre reason -- are these guys actually coded "start" games?

And yes, it doesn't show that in the game itself.

These are openers in real-life baseball. They take those off in the on-line game , probably because even with super-relievers being checked to a certain extent, you could manipulate the game too much. You could take 5 S1s costing very little and then have much better relievers coming in to finish and you could spend a lot less money and be competitive with a much more expensive staff.
