playoff format ?

PostMon Jun 10, 2024 1:23 pm

in real life sports (MLB, NBA, probably NHL also but not as sure there, but it fits the same premise), any 7 game series used to be 2-2-1-1-1....meaning, the home team (better record) would have home games in #1, #2, #5, and #7....that was an advantage not only from having 4 games, but also by having the 1st, the 7th, and if series is tied at 2-2, the all important 5th game

the only reason (that I know of) that was changed, was due to the extra travel and fatigue involved, with the final 3 games....so, most series changed to 2-3-2, which decreases the advantage the better record team had, and gives a big boost to the lower ranked team, having 3 games in a row, and if every team "holds serve", they end up with a 3-2 lead and only need to win one of the final two on the road, with game 6 being a super high pressure "win or go home" game for the home team

does anyone know why SOM is using the 2-3-2 format ?.....it kind of punishes the better record team, who earned that better record thru a long regular season, and it totally unnecessary from a travel or fatigue aspect ?

does nobody agree that without travel concerns, the format should be the original 2-2-1-1-1 ?

I recently completed my first playoffs and was shocked at the 2-3-2 format

thanks for any feedback or reasoning
