I have only played ATG 9, but started thinking maybe I would branch out and play the new 2024 Game and even join Moose's Player's Championship. But I don't have time to add up 800 cards and I am kind of a numbers freak. Well, SOM to the rescue! They promote their new Ratings Download as: All the “card chances” number-crunching done for you

All that for $17....No Brainer. Well, I guess that is true except for Singles, except for Doubles, except for Triples. Why the heck would I want to know the number of Doubles on a card?

SOM, I don't really care that you suckered me for $17...I pay that in tolls going to work. I do care that you basically lied about your product. You have the number of singles, doubles and triples for each card. You are either too lazy or stupid to provide it to us. Don't you realize that if you give customers that kind of information up front, more people would feel they have a chance to win and buy more credits to play?? And don't get me started about you not creating a Diamond Dope alternative for the ATG crowd. Just stupid, short-sighted business practices.

RB, I've stickied Joe's annual pitch for his ratings for a day or two. Since you have purchased his ratings, as well as SOM's Rating Guide, compare and contrast the two products.

I just wanted to point out, that there's a notable difference between the ratings guide and what I provide. The Guide/disk is just the raw data, but what I provide translates the raw data into ratings which include the fielding and running data into one number.

Not saying you have to do anything that I do, or that what I do is the best or only way to do things, but I do believe that to be good at this, you need some way of combining all this information in a way that makes sense to you and helps you navigate how to build a team.

going back to the original post, you are correct that it would be nice if the data disk provided more granular details. That being said, that data is sufficient to do significant evaluations of the players. It is the basis for Joe's calculations and that is the raw data used to price the sets.

I was able to use the Strat ratings guide to develop a rating system based on NERP when I played 20XX. I have taken to only playing ATG9 at the moment, which does not have a ratings guide. I use Joe the Jet's ratings for ATG9. HIs ratings are more comprehensive than my NERP ratings. He does a better job of dealing with speed and defense.

I have been using the ratings download since the 2015 season to calculate NERP and have found it invaluable.
