SOM 365 “HAL” settings and usage flaws - suggestions for issues negatively effecting game play and GM control
(by commenting on this thread, please add your own ideas/experiences, suggestions, to make a master list Palmtana might be able to forward to the powers that be)
STEALS
1. NEVER LET AN SP ATTEMPT A STEAL- ......FOOOOCKING SUPER GLUE HIM TO 1st base WITHOUT ANY LEAD AT ALL, if you have to, but SPs have gotten PICKED OFF first base, when there is NO reason for them to run, and even team setting for stealing is the lowest, "EXTRA CONSERVATIVE", the pitchers is lucky enough to have gotten on base, and then instantly disintegrated before next batter even sees a pitch
2. NEVER let a runner LEAD OFF ANY BASE AND GET PICKED OFF, if they are designated NOT TO STEAL ANY BASE
3. NEVER let a runner steal home unless score is tied or team is down by 1 run AND there are 2 outs...(no reason to risk stealing with 1 or 2 outs when a sac fly or grounder scores the runner on 3rd)
4. NEVER let a runner steal 2nd in 7th inning or later if down by more than 1 run
5. NEVER let a runner steal 3rd base with 2 outs
6. NEVER let a runner steal any base if they are designated to NEVER steal a base,
RUNNER TAKING EXTRA BASE
7. NEVER STRETCH A DOUBLE INTO A TRIPLE with 2 OUTS with 2 outs, regardless of the score, losing, tied, or winning, NEVER let a batter try and stretch a double into a triple.....not ONE manager is MLB would send the runner
8. NEVER LET A HITTER TRY FOR ANY EXTRA BASE if DOWN BY MORE THAN ONE RUN
PINCH HIT
9. with the score tied or behind and in the bottom of the 9th or extra innings (a chance to win the game right there, and not need to pitch any more innings), ALWAYS pinch hit for the pitcher, if there is any viable hitter on the bench, or even a better hitting pitcher.....it makes NO FOOOOOOOCKING sense at all to leave the SP in (or any pitcher) and let them hit for themselves, unless they're an "8" (or 5) rating
10. NEVER hit for player designated to “NOT PINCH HIT FOR”
11. Should be a setting to either “allow” or “prevent” letting HAL make his famed double switches when pinch hitting for pitcher
SUBSTITUTIONS
12. NEVER remove a player designated NOT TO BE REMOVED FOR ANY REASON, DONT PINCH HIT FOR HIM AND DONT REPLACE HIM DEFENSIVELY AND DON”T LET HIM BE ANY PART OF A DOUBLE SWITCH
13. have a setting that either allows or prevents HAL’s patented “musical chairs” late inning grand ol right and left do si do resulting in replacing or moving not only half the lineup, but also the guys in the dugout…..if the GM wants to allow HAL to do it, ok, but if the GM doesn’t want that under any circumstances and HAL should ONLY FOLLOW the specific settings the GM has set, that should be an option (to a further extent, there should be optional limits on HALs powers...give the GM the ability and permission to decide as many things as possible….the computer already has the dice rolls which can’t be controlled by GM, but reducing or allowing the GM to choose to reduce HAL’s influence on in game management should be paramount)
PITCHING
14. UNDER ZERO CIRCUMSTANCES, do NOT let a RHP or LHP specialist face ANY BATTER opposite of his skill set….bring in another RP, bring in any SP on the bench, bring in the bat boy, clubhouse attendant, organist, but DO NOT let DAN PLESAC and his 13+ HRS against RHB FACE A FOOOOOOCKING RHB
15. have a DO NOT REMOVE BEFORE ANY SPECIFIC INNING for SPS, as long as their fatigue factor hasn’t been reached (IE, do not pinch hit or double switch for him)
