Drafting Broken

PostTue Aug 27, 2013 2:23 pm

I had the last pick in the draft. I got almost NO ONE that I listed. That's fine ... however ... the #3 pick had FOUR of the guys high on my list! How can he get 4 of my top 5 picks and I get NONE!? It's obviously NOT a snake draft ... how effin' stupid is that?! How can the 3rd picking team get 4! of my top guys?! aaah so stupid.
So pretty much if you get last pick you are throwing you money down the drain.... very nice.

Here is what the rules say regarding how the auto draft works. I agree that it is not a good system.

Auto-Draft uses the following logic to draft the teams:

If a player was selected by only one team, that team gets him.
If a player was selected by more than one team:
The team that ranked that player highest gets him.
If more than one team tied for ranking that player the highest:
That player is randomly awarded to one of those teams that ranked him the same.
For each team that lost out on a player:
The team receives the next highest-priced available player that is not on another teams draft card and has the same primary position of the original player that the team lost out on.

Ridiculous.

This game has so much potential, I only wish it wasn't run by people who don't give a shit. It's pretty obvious they could care less about TRULY making this game better not these cheap LAZY things they keep doing to make it seem like they are trying. They are not. Where's the passion. Where's the heart. Sell this damn thing to someone who cares. How much do you want for strat-o-matic?? let's get a couple of serious investors and turn this ship around. Let's make an offer to buy this thing and bring the people what they want! *end of rant*

any other investors interested in buying strat o matic? (i'm serious)

Changing how the autodraft is done has been brought up on the boards a number of times. It goes nowhere because the guys who have done hundreds or thousands of autodrafts see an advantage in keeping the status quo and those who spend the most hold the most sway (and it probably is also easier to leave as is rather than change).

Hopefully live drafts will be back and improved sometime. I would suggest a league drafting through diamond dope but be warned the site is slow and can be frustrating. I prefer it to the autodraft system as is anyway.

This game is vastly improved from when TSN ran it. I eventually quit playing and stayed away for 8 years before I found out Strat is now running its own game. The game still has bugs and flaws and I admit I myself will curse the roof off the house at bonehead moves Hal makes or sometimes how predictable the game can be but as I mentioned it is vastly improved and I am willing to give it a chance to figure things out sooner rather than later.

Ummmmmmm What exactly has changed since Strat is running it? As far as I know, TSN didn't "run" anything, they were just a platform, it was still run by the same bunch of goons who have done almost NOTHING in 10 years other than take your $$$.

This was not a rant, but more of a "He stole my lollipop"...

Most things we post, falls on deaf ears. Most...

And, if your top 5 picks were, say... Moss, Fowler, Dickey, Cabrera, Rodney... Doesn't matter the order, you'd be lucky to get Fowler.

Without Context of who was attempted at bein drafted, I cannot fairly give an opinion.

However, The draft engine is not perfect, I see it as fair, to the point that we are all playing be the same rules.

The advantages, come to those that know (for example), that Moss, is gonna be listed first on more than one players draft card. So, don't waste your number one pick on Moss (tho he is worth it), and (for example only again), in a hitting park, draft Desmond one instead. You'll get em damn near everytime.

Doubt many will see this, but I ll hide it down here, at the bottom of some thread that wont get attention from SOM...

You guys ever think that SOM really wants to put out a live draft option? For them, it does not make business sense, that is, unless we boycott the product till they do...

See, longer it takes to fill a league... Longer it takes for them to get a leagues worth of money.

12 players, 25 rounds, even at half hour time slots, with NO clock shutoff... that's 4 rounds a day.
6 days min to fill a league.

So we have auto leagues that fill in 2 days now...

OR live draft leagues in 6.

I may be wrong...

But...

Just saying is all.

Excellent points Michael.
F33d M3 , Strat is not "taking " your money. We all play this game because we enjoy plaing against 12 or 24 other baseball fans. This version of online baseball is the best out there that I have seen. As I mentioned I agree there are bugs and things to improve and yes I think 25 bucks is a bit pricey but the game is spread out over enough period of time where the entertainment value for the money is there.
You must not of played the game on TSN if you don't notice the difference between what it used to be and now.
Hopefully you will start to enjoy the game more but if not don't throw your money away on something you are not going to like playing

Look, I've mentioned it before, even ran a poll.

Any system, where you could theoretically miss ALL 25 of your picks, is a broken and wrong system. End of story, anyone can see that.

the problem is there are some guys, who tend to buy a LOT of teams, who like the "game within the game" of the current draft, and don't want it "dumbed down". When running the poll there were quite a few guys, who like the current way. Probably because since they've played so much they know exactly how to abuse it to get who they want over the other people.

I agree, it needs to change. But if you think SOM will listen over Bernie when he was alone..., you are sadly mistaken.
