Greatest Left Fielders Now/Favorite songs of 2010's

PostTue Mar 10, 2015 9:21 pm

Last list of the year, as left fielders typically get no respect. As to the best/favorite songs of the 2010's, I am well aware many on the forum no longer keep up with today's music. However, those who do are more than welcome to share their top ten favorite--or one or two--favorite songs of this decade. Hopefully some of us will pick up a solid rec or two.

Greatest Left Fieldeers
1. Micheal Brantley, CLE--Legitimate 5-tool star is ready to hit national scene.
2. Alex Gordon, KC--Greatest defensive LF since Bonds, he has a solid LH bat as well.
3. Matt Holliday, STL--Old horse is still on the decline but is still an offensive ace.
4. Starling Marte, PIT--Five tool player will be a stud when his defense smooths out.
5. Christian Yelich, MIA--Maybe the sweetest swing in MLB; he's a defensive whiz as well.
6. Yoenis Cespedes, DET--Athletic beast could be a true star if he got on base more and played smarter.
7. Bryce Harper, WAS--He should be #1, but he needs to improve consistency and stay healthy.
8. Shin-Soo Choo, TEX--Baffling mix of talent and inconsistency; he should be higher.
9. Brett Gardner, NYY--Fireplug sparkplug maximizes talent, unlike the three above.
10. Melky Cabrera, TOR--Smooth hitter with a bit of pop....he still scammed my Giants.

Top Ten Favorite Songs of the 2010's
1. Do I Wanna Know by The Arctic Monkeys. Sheffield post-punkers smooth it out with this groove-filled one.

2. Born to Die by Lana Del Rey. The best of lovely Lana's noirish, Lynchian torch songs.

3. The Wire by HAIM--3 nice Jewish girls perfectly splice The Eagles with Lindsey Buckingham.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TffpkE2GU4
4. Yet Again by Grizzly Bear--Brooklyn's Radiohead weaves this dreamy tune about a love's end
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuG9i5cwGW0
5. Clear Skies by Keane--Piano band uncharacteristically turns to the guitar with this infectious cut.

6. Sixteen Saltines by Jack White--The White Stripes meet the Black Keys as Jack White's genius continues.

7. Radioactive by Imagine Dragons--Las Vegas' second big Mormon band delivers this excellent anthem.

8. As We Enter by Nas & Damian Marley--Brilliant hip-hop duet recalls best songs of classic Cypress Hill.

9. Tennis Court by Lorde. New Zealand's teen wunderkind has already shown songwriting talent beyond her years.

10. Cop Car by Keith Urban--Smooth-voiced, guitar virtuoso shows country-pop mastery with song of young love.

Strong list of left fielders. The only one I am not sure about is Melky Cabrera number 10... I don't listen to too much modern music.

Justin Upton is better than at least half of those guys, and Dickerson, HanRam, and Coco Crisp are better players than Melky and Cespedes. It's a pretty strong position in MLb right now.

Justin Upton is better than half of those players. However, he has been a right fielder most of his career and will likely play right for SD...unless Myers does. The aging Coco Crisp and Dickerson are not even close to better players than Melky and Cespedes. HanRam may be a better hitter, but he is going to be awful in Fenway's left fied, and thus is not a better left fielder.

You are. of course, welcome to actually back up your flawed assertions if you feel you can do so.

Between Bud Black and your predictions about where Upton will play, I'll take Bud's. See his 12/19/14 comments to AP.

As I said above, he will play right field unless Myers does. If he does play left field, I would put him second on my list.

I'm glad you're quoting yourself. I'll stick with Bud Black's direct quote placing Upton in left.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Kate Upton though, who is on my top 10 list at every position.

For what it's worth ZIPS shares your optimism about Cespedes in terms of projected WARP. Melky, not so much, although he's not a bad player. No PED outrage for Melky though?

I'm glad you're sticking with Bud Black's quote a second time. I showed my quote to remind you I said Upton might play left field. He obviously is going to do so. So, let's move on.

If you do follow music any more, I'm sure the Forum would appreciate your recommendations.

Kate certainly ranks #1 on the list of Uptons connected to baseball, for sure.
