Matt Cain and the Reverse Lineup

I think concern about the reverse lineups was over-reaction. I experimented with it on my first team making some adjustments in lineup. On my second team with it though realized it was not about the ability to focus on reverse pitchers.

On my second team with it I set my primary lineup for the reverse pitcher in a straightforward manner. Then for lineup #1 and #2 made adjustments for hitters who were weak against same side pitchers.

Example catcher. Cochrane is my starting catcher. He starts against all righties. He also starts against lefties because the card is not so unbalanced that it requires a platoon. But he has a 2 injury chance with 15 game eligibility. So wanted a decent backup. Settled on Kendall since team was speed based. Kendall starts only against lefties who are tough on lefties. Now it would be even better if I could designate that #1 lineup to be used with say 3L or worse but settle for what I can get for now. Cochrane also is listed as defensive replacement so I am getting the max benefit out of my more expensive catcher.

If this feature did not exist would probably just start Cochrane every game. So a reverse lefty would not face any additional LH hitters. But a 9L or whatever hard lefty will now have to deal with his weakness of not having the extra pitches to get deal effectively with RH hitters. That pitcher will face an extra RH hitter with some LH hitters taking the day off just like in real life.

After being in the Minors for 34 games I called Cain back up. In 4 statrs he has gone 4-0 with 4 complete games. 6ER's 25H 11BB and 33K's and 2 shutouts. His spilts are .204BA 1HR against LHB and .285BA 7HR's against RHB for the season. He clearly likes LHB.
I think he doesn't much like riding a bus. The time in single A has done him a world of good!

Chase, I feel your pain. Now give him to me for Brandon McCarthy and a 5th round pick. We're likely going to share the same division next time and I'll do you a favor in taking him off your hands.

Maybe I am missing something, but I see reverse lineups as a wash. I haven't lost any sleep over them as my team currently has the best record in the league at 75-48, but I am playing against two reverse right-handed pitchers on the team with the second record tonight: Haren R, 2L and Sanchez R, 3L. So, normally, I would play Descalso L, 4R, who platoons at 3B (Don't ask.) against RHPs, but I assume I should play Dominguez R, 5L, who normally plays against LHP. The way I see it, Dominguez (R, 5L) will benefit when the roll falls on the pitchers' cards as their vs. RHB card is worse than their vs. LHB card, and the vs. RHB card will be used; but he will suffer when the roll falls on his own card as his vs. RHP card is worse than his vs. LHP card, with him being 5L. The reverse would be true for Descalso. It seems like the plusses and minuses would balance out. What am I missing?
