How do you guys do it?

Pretty much what I try to do.

Typically I will go for a middle/cheap 4 man rotation, either like Jerlins said one stud and one kinda cheap (plus a bunch of chepaies) or 3 kinda cheap (2-3 mil range) with a bunch of cheapies. I tend to run with 11-12 man pitching staffs and have enough cheapies (hard RH/LH pitchers) to get through games.

Spend most of my salary and high picks on hitters. If you have a ratings book, I concentrate on the TB's first, as I want to be able to drive guys in regardless of ballpark effects.

Using the ratings book I will average out my teams hit, ob and tb on each side. Vs RHP I like to aim for an average (again no ballpark effects) of 28 hits, 40 ob and 48 tb. If I can average that, I should have a decent offense (top 5 at least) even in a dead park.
