The rules as you have them now (as I understand them) result in the team affiliations meaning nothing for drafts after the '07 season (other than name and ballpark) so maybe allow owners to take a limited number of players from their two teams in each draft. You could limit it by the number of players and/or salaries.

You could also allow a limited number of players from teams not in the league to be selected in each draft, say up to 2 players and/or $7.5 M?

Definitely a possibility and I like the ideas. None of the rules are set in stone as I want others opinions so that everyone has their say to encourage guys staying for the long haul.

Perhaps let teams keep 1 player from each of their affiliated MLB teams each season, while the rest go to a draft. Then have a second very short maybe 2 or 3 round draft to bring in the stars from the remaining MLB teams who aren't affiliated.

Opinions on that or any tweaks?

what I think might be workable is that at the beginning of every year your cards all revert back to the original teams -- so every year you start with your same two team picks - then you are allowed to make trades but only for the year you are in...JMO...Tom.

Does this mean that if one picks Boston for '07, they would have Boston for all 6 years?

The rules are not set in stop, and I would welcome input from anyone interested in joining. The hope is for it to be a keeper league that will run into current day, so input on rules and making it so that we all agree on the rules would help in ensuring that it holds everyone's interest. Here is what I have put together so far. If I don't get enough interest, I'll keep writing up my rules and try again in the future. haha

The basis of the league are this: Each owner chooses 2 MLB teams, 1 AL, and 1 NL. That owner will then have the rights too all of the players carded for those teams for the 2007 season. At drafting phase of the preseason, each owner will fill their roster with players from their two chosen MLB teams, and the rest will remain in the Free Agents pool until that owner "Calls them up" by signing them. The league will have a $200M cap, which will probably not come into play, unless there are a lot of send ups and call downs.

Each owner should name their team based on their MLB teams by using the city name of one team, and the team name of the other team. For example, if I choose the Boston Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies, my team would be the Colorado Red Sox, or the Boston Rockies. Each team shall have a unique home field, belonging to one of their 2 selected MLB teams, so the Boston Rockies would play at either Fenway, or Coors Field.

There will be no traditional free agency in this league, all players will be acquired through trades or drafts. For the first season there will be no roster limit, but following the conclusion of our first (2007) season, the roster limit will be 40 (subject to change depending on league vote prior to initial season). Prior to each draft, owners will cut their roster to be below the roster limit, and will have draft picks according to their roster side. For example if the roster limit is 40, and I cut to 32, I'll have 8 draft picks.

Prior to each entry draft, each team will be allowed to select 2 players that are newly carded by their MLB affiliates (who are not already property of another team in our league) to play on their team. All other newly carded players from our affiliates will enter into the draft.

There will be a second 2 round draft that will allow players from UN-affiliated MLB clubs to be entered into our league. This draft is optional, and any teams wishing to enter this draft are to leave their roster at 38 players, so that the two drafted will make for the roster total of 40.

They would have Boston for all of the years, but the rosters will not revert back at the end of each season. If in the first season the Boston team trades Tim Wakefield to the Mets, Wakefield would still be with the Mets from 2008 until he's either cut, traded, or no longer an active carded player.
