If i could pick 1 player to build a team around, it would be Ricky Henderson. Ob, slg, speed, fielding. The most disruptive force in the game i have ever seen play. He could beat you so many different ways - and he was as durable as they come. And the most important thing IMO. A WINNER.

Williams was the greatest hitter, Bonds was a terrible post season player, but Ricky did it all and won too.

Bonds put a .433 obp, .503 slugging in 200+ career postseason appearances to go along with his typical defense.

I'm a lifelong SF Giants fan - I was a little kid when Mays played in NY. And I do have a Giants bias as a result. So many players juiced in Bonds/McGuire era that the asterisk has to be added to ALL their names. Barry just did it better than all the others. I have seen film of Williams and Ruth, but never saw them play. I watched Bonds entire career in Pitt and SF. He is absolutely the greatest hitter, with the best command of the strike zone I have ever seen.

But Mays is still the greatest Player I have ever seen. Barry also had the luxury of playing in SF which favored LHH. Mays would have hit 800 if he played anywhere but Candlestick, where the wind blew in from LF. Williams would have hit more than any of them if he didn't miss his prime in WWII. But Williams never led his team to a championship. And surprisingly, neither did Mays(Unless you include NY in 1954) or Bonds. But Ricky Henderson, across the board, IMO was the player I would build a team around. I don't care what oF position they played - Including the Great Hank Aaron, who(Like Mays) also only won 1 time.

I also would give the nod to Musial over Williams because he won and was a better defender.

Im also not a big fan of music after Y2K. Aside from a handful of Bands like Radiohead, I seldom heard anything I would purchase that were not bands later albums from prior eras. It seems to get worse every year. Almost as if anybody with a computer, keyboard and mic seems to think they're a musician nowadays. I don't know what ever happenned to actual musicianship since the early 90's backward to the 40's. But nobody impresses me as a guitar player, bassist, drummer keyboard player, singer or performer the past 15-20 years. But I saw an indie band from Long Island for about 8 years called AS TALL AS LIONS, who could play, sing(Some 4 part harmonies) and write great songs. I'm sure there are plenty of others out there. But they certainly don't get airplay. Just my 2 cents.

But I am totally open to suggestions.

Bonds played in the toughest home run park for a lefty hitter in baseball.

I'm a lifelong Giants fan as well, Robert...well, at least since I was a 9-yr old in 1977. I have no problem with your evaluations of Bonds as a hitter, although I might not put him past Williams, or even Musial. However, I completely disagree with your putting an asterisk on every hitter in that era. There were players who resisted the temptation to cheat with steroids, and it literally cost them contract and arbitration money because their stats paled in comparison to those who roided. To paint them with an unfair brush of condemnation is only adding insult to their injury. Also, the fact we know Bonds probably roided means he didn't do it better than others. The ones who "got away with it" actually did it the "best."

Well, Robert, I posted 13 excellent songs by 13 excellent bands. They were: The Foo Fighters, Green Day, The Killers, Mumford and Sons, Tool, Kings of Leon, Keane, Muse, Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, Coldplay, The Strokes, and Arcade Fire.

Those are some of the best bands of the 00's; they all have excellent musicians who don't rely on computers, and are all committed to musicianship. If not all of those are to your taste, I can and will suggest others.

However, i would first suggest you not fall into the trap many people, including myself, can as we get older. That is condemning an entire period of music just because what we hear of it hasn't entirely pleased us. No period of art is bereft of brilliance, and no period is flooded with it. My parents' parents hated the music of the 60's, and my parents hated the music of the 80's and 90's. I'm sure the kids in the 00's will say exactly what you said about the 00's when bemoaning music in the 2030's.

So, as I said in my first post, The 00's was actually a remarkable music decade marked by experimentation, a return to 80's Alt-rock, and a Folk renaissance. You just have to search a little harder. To help, here are some more excellent bands and artists of the 00's:

Amy Winehouse
Ryan Adams
Wilco
The White Stripes
TV on the Radio
The Lumineers
The Black Keys
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Lana Del Rey
Adele
Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst

Give them a try and get back to me.
