First of all, grown men really shouldn't say "lol at" things. It's dated teen talk like "omg" or "bff." Secondly, you keep acting like WAR is the end-all, be-all statistic determining value, and it's not. If you can show how it is, and how all other statistics are irrelevant, knock yourself out. You haven't done it so far. I well showed how TB did very well in the trade with other statistics.

Finally, thanks for showing you couldn't find many RH relievers as talented and productive as Jepsen. You proved relievers may be a dime a dozen, but good ones like Jepsen aren't. Finally, Jepsen has a great story. He had an awesome year last year, dealt it at 96, increased his GB rate and strikeout rate, and is now one of the Rays' set-up men. I'm sure he's happy with it.

Who says I'm not actually a teen. And "lol" at you accusing anybody in the universe of immaturity. You're a train wreck in these threads throwing insults and puffing self aggrandizement in all directions. You fight with nearly everybody. An entire thread has been devoted to your banishment. Like most trolls you get off on it. Lol, tee hee, giggles.

Every serious sabrmetric analyst uses some variant of WAR, sorry Charlie. Fangraphs uses WAR. Baseball reference, same. Baseball Prospectus, same. Bill James invented its precursor, Win Shares. Nobody, and I mean nobody except sabrmetrically-ignorant fans, Harold Reynolds, and my mom employ batting average and RBI and the stuff like you do to evaluate transactions. That's so 1970's of you. Pre-Baseball Abstracts and all.

History professor focusing on the 70's? Pre-law at some community college focusing on "syllogistic reasoning"? Half of me thinks you're mentally ill and its unkind of me to engage you. The other half says, A.H.. Prove me wrong by going 5 minutes without being self referential or insulting. Or at least provide one example of actually cogent baseball analysis and I'd be inclined to forgive the rest.

Pardon me, I have to return to playing dollies with the other girls.

Firstly, you should really avoid rants (and dolly jokes) like yours if you're going to discuss mental capacity. I can definitely say I'm truly concerned about yours. I was concerned about it the moment you started bizarrely giggling on this thread. Your making light of those bizarre giggles doesn't alleviate that concern.

Secondly,If you're a teen, your post was excusable. I assume you're not, so it's not and further proves your immaturity. Considering you gave no evidence to support it, the only "train wreck" and troll is you. Also, no thread was put up for my "banishment." The poster who posted the banishment thread failed to name his subject, so nobody can legitimately say who it was now. And neither you nor anyone else has shown where I initially insulted anybody, started a fight, or "puffed myself up." Until you or anyone does, your hollow claims are just trolling personal attacks.

What you say about sabrmetricians is true. But we're not discussing sabrmetrics; we're discussing trade analyses. Most baseball publications do not make WAR their man statistic in trade analyses, as you mistakenly do. Baseball America often doesn't use them at all. They all still use rbi's, batting avg. and other traditional statistics, That makes your mother and I much more progressive in our analyses than you. Your poor analysis of the Joyce-Jepsen trade is a perfect example.
History professor focusing on the 70's? Pre-law at some community college focusing on "syllogistic reasoning"?
Again, you cry about my supposed insults then make them on me. Such hypocrisy seriously undermines anything you say. I am actually an English professor focusing on Modernist American literature. Syllogistic reasoning is the basis of logical reasoning in all fields. Anyone who took a logic, philosophy, or English composition course in college or high school knows this. I assumed you had done so and knew that. I was apparently wrong.

I have used it carefully in my all my cogent trade analyses. That's not "puffery;" it's just valid claim supported by the fact you haven't been able to show otherwise. If you want to revisit those trades and attempt to do so, please do. It would say a lot more about your character than your hollow, inflammatory personal attacks you have made against me here.

That's your second troll post that just repeated your first one. Your contributions so far are very impressive... :)

Thanks for showing everyone the caliber of my "critics."

Do you, Strether, get along with anyone???

All WE see is you fighting with people on virtually every single thread you 'participate' in; and most of the time over meaningless stuff.

and the thing is- most of these folks don't fight with anyone else except you.

Further evidence will be whatever brilliant insults you now feel compelled to use.

Strat logged me out again rendering the foe feature unless so surprise, I stumbled upon yet another couple paragraphs of strecher insulting people and grading their posts like we are in junior high or something. Strecher reminds me of Rainman a little except Rainman wasn't as socially inept.

What you and others I don't respect "see" is not my concern. Your perspective, in particular, means nothing to me. I only care about the facts involved.

As to your claims about people only fighting with me, that's just not true. Here's some evidence:

Maaan, Im left wondering if you are really this obtuse or just acting; Either way,
here is the only thing I can say, since for the nth time you've missed completely on the point.

“Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.”

and just in case you dont get it: I am the one 'wasting' my time, and Im sure you are 'annoyed'.

You not only fight this guy, Salty, you actually call him a "singing pig" in big bold face. What mature, stable adult does that? As to people liking me on this forum; yeah, some do...particularly nice intelligent members like Fredpaii:
fredpaii wrote:Prof. Strether, I thank you for your soulful (best word that resonates for me) contributions in these favorites/greatest threads. I didn't contribute much at all in your threads IMO. But I did learn something about music through your input as well as Steve's, niners, and alk. If there were others I thank them too. I know the power of music but I haven't pursued it as much as say Strat baseball on the internet (not close). Never really got into music at all until I was in the Army. Ninerphans' responses in particular, together with your posts - and others - have me wondering what I'm missing regarding music. And that's a major gift. Thank you, guys.

And now you got me seeking out poetry! Another soulful type endeavor. I'll have to PM you about that. You are a MAJOR gift to these boards, L. Strether.

If you ever need poetry tips, I'd be glad to even give them to you. So if you have any actual evidence to bring me, please do. However, please keep your personal perspectives to yourself. I have no interest in or respect for them.

Speaking of "personal perspectives" and caliber of critics. BJ just further proves no one can support any claim against me, which is pretty lame. I haven't graded any post yet, but BJ''s definitely wouldn't "pass."... ;)

So the simple answer is a resounding NO- you get along with 'almost' no one.
A ratio of one or two who have complimented a post of yours to the forty or fifty you have fought with.

Of course- you showing that some such as myself do sometimes get into it with others does not mitigate the simple fact that you fight with virtually EVERYONE.

Its truly amazing how people (strether) who are cowardly in real life, when hiding behind the anonymity of the internet seem to channel all of their passive agressions into their online personalities.
