Defensive rating

Is there a big loss between a 2 rating and a 3 rating at shortstop? Basically, I am out of the ss loop and I'm looking at 3 rating player. :(

I have the chart more or less memorized. Moving from a 2 to a 3 range means that there are 4 single chances (out of 20) instead of 2, so the chance of a single goes up from 10% to 20%, or a 10% increase.

Also, the chance of a double play goes down by 5/20, or 25%. I think it drops from 45% to 20%, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

watch the erating as well. But I think most players would agree that the range factor is relatively more important for a shortstop than the erating.

or a quick and dirty version

shortstop - fielding rating is king

1ss34 = 2e7, better than any other rating
1ss54 = 2ss29 = 3ss4, better than any other rating
1ss84 = 2ss60 = 3ss38 = 4ss10, better than any other rating

Ryan and Hardy are available. Is either worth a pick up?

I'd go with Hardy. Good D and he'll hit a few homers.
