Record Books

I would love to see a "record book" list of top performances for each season. Top ten maybe in each catagory? Also maybe a special catagory for things like *4 twenty game winners on one staff. To watch as your cleanup hitter climbs the ladder for most RBI's in 2011 would be cool don't you think? *Thanks for posting your 4 twenty game winners!

That's something they didn't do very well at the old SN site. I'm hoping they'll eventually get do right over here.

Yes. The record books stink and I think it would be a huge attraction to try and have one of your players record breaking seasons up on a mantle somewhere for all to see. Just my 2 cents but I think it's a great idea.

I played when there were record books and it is kind of cool. I t is also a lot of work for someone, which is why it fell by the wayside.

The records books exist for the ATG game only. I used to maintain them for the 200X game, but I seldom play it, so my interest isnt with that game. With the transition, records books were lost for the other games I maintained (69, 70's, 80's, 90's) but it was never converted to the WIKI format that has a much nicer look and feel and is actually a lot easier to maintain.

If you like to see records, play ATG.

If SOM wants to post WIKI style records for any other game and finds a way to gather the baseline of the records, I would be happy to MAINTAIN them. But the gathering is the most work, and my time is limited.

It's been good of MM to look after some of the record books, but a system that relies on an interested volunteer to cull records from a forum and post them on a wiki is not a good system. I'm really hoping before Strat lets their extra programmers go that they give us a Cadillac of an automated record keeper.

That would be great to see, but I'm afraid it would be at the bottom of a very long laundry list of things that are deemed more important.

I remember being a part of a 5 man team to help gather the initial records before, and it was a pain in the ass to say the least. I don't fault MM in any way for not wanting to do that part.

TBH, there should be a way for SOM to automate that since they can just run a SQL query to get that info. It shouldn't have to be maintained manually.

I know, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. At the old site Bernie was a one-man show, and he probably will be again, but right now they have the extra manpower working on making the database efficient, and at some point they're going to query that data to get the manager ratings. I would be very disappointed if they didn't roll out, or at least have the framework in place for, a quality records section.

Personally I'd love to see each category 10 deep, with a whole bunch of interesting stats - something allong the lines of what baseball-reference.com gives. Wouldn't that be awesome? Maybe I'm dreaming, but I'd think it would be good for business. We baseball fans love stats, and where you have stats you've got to have records.

I'm not a programmer but it seems like it wouldn't be hard to have the records be auto compiled consider the stats are auto compiled to begin with and yet it isn't happening so it must be hard.

I agree that it would add a ton to the site to have records. Who wouldn't want to try to break records and gear a squad not only to win but to accomplish the all-time 86 SB record, or break the HR record. or try to see if I can hit 62 HR with Ralph Bryant? I would love to see records and I know as a stat geek it would add just that one extra element that makes this game even more addictive.
