Experimented by having only 4 players qualified to play LF or RF, and nobody at CF -- put Zobrist at 2nd, left Markakis on bench with empty slot in line-up -- HAL usually put Markakis in right and Stanton in CF, sometimes the reverse -- with an injury, Zobrist played OF
I've heard the "maximum worst fielding" thing doesn't happen when a corner OF plays CF out of position -- also, I think the arm stays the same (they're all minus three except Zobrist, who's minus 2)
as best I can tell, the X-tot X-out at CF was 91 and 45 with NO errors, so it "cost" 46 hits relative to a perfect CF (much less relative to an average one):
X-tot X-out at CF
Stanton 78 and 38
Markakis 5 and 3
Zobrist 8 and 4
Gordon -- HAL never moved him from LF
another interesting detail on this team: Blake Davis (.50m) in 193 AB: .290 .343 .492 .835 -- and in 175 AB vs. RHP: .309 .361.526 .887 -- also, although a "D" stealer, I had him on steal more and he had 9 SB and 2 CS
