"Unleashed" players

Is there a way to know which players will be considered "unleashed" in the upcoming set due to their lack of AB's or IP's? Does the ratings book or ratings download show it?

Thanks in advance!

It's Stratomatics decision.

The ratings download does NOT show if they are unleashed or not. Just pure #'s.

Thanks visick! So we won't know until the online version comes out :(

Not really because there are no hard fast rules for exclusion from the regular set. That said we can make some educated guesses based on past decisions.

First, all computer only players are not included, if you have the Ratings book they are indicated in bold face, if you have the download, they have an X in the location column next to their name.

Now the GENERAL rule of thumb for inclusion is that a pitcher has to have at least 25 IP's and a batter has to have at least 75 PA's unless it's a catcher. Sometimes limited PA cathers get in. Then it's simply common sense, if it's a dominate card, especially one that could potentially win a post season stat category if given a whole season, ( Most HR's, highest BA, Strikeouts etc) then the card could wind up in the unleashed set, this is especialy true for Rookies and guys that have one year wonder, type seasons even if they have a big injury.

Some guys I think might be in Unleashed:

Nolan Reimold
Irving Falu
Brandon Moss , even with the high PA's
Jeff Keppinger, Ditto, though he'll likly make it in the regular set
J Ruggiano
J Lucroy, he probably makes it though.
Travis Snider
P Kozma- this is the poster child type player for the Unleashed set this year.

I haven't looked at the pitchers yet. One thing with pitchers, a S/R will need to have made at least 4 starts to keep his Starter desigantion if he has a really good card. Many times the on-line game has pulled the starter designation from those guys leaving them as only an R3.

I know this wasn't a definitive answer, but I hope it helps.

Thanks ninersphan! Yeah I figured Kozma would be a definite unleashed player. So Lance Lynn in 2011 set and a few others from your last explanation is why the starter designation wasn't in the online version?

Thanks again!

I'd be shocked if Brandon Moss doesn't get a card. 84 games, 291 ABs. I know his vs RHP split is extreme (1.006 OPS) and his dice rolls are accordingly insane, but if they price his card correctly it won't be a problem.

I'm just gonna lay this out there one more time ( the example that got me on my crusade/soapbox to include all the cards all the time)

Carlos Baerga 2003: .343 ba .396obp .464 slg .859 OPS this card with 231 plate appearences was EXCLUDED, I'll say again EXCLUDED     (yes still bitter.)

Brandon Moss 2012: .291 ba .358 obp .596 slg .954 OPS in 296 plate appearences...

so there is a precendent. :o

You have been warned. ;)

I can see it happening with Moss. Especially since he's never come close to those numbers before. Baerga surprises me. He was a known good hitter by that time, wasn't he?

Do we have any evidence that Strat will continue the Unleashed players? isn't that something born from the TSN group?
