Season Starts Tonight- Question

I am in a league that starts tonight. I remember with the old TSN leagues you could make a free agent move up until midnight on the first night of games and as long as you made the move BEFORE the first series results were in you did not take the 20% hit. Is this still possible with the new game here at SOM? I ask because I noticed a veteran manager still has money to spend (and moves to make), so I want to see what last minute free agents may become available. Do moves have to be made before 10:00pm EST or can you make moves with no 20% hit up until the first game results are in at midnight like at TSN? Thanks much in advance for any help.

Games run much earlier, but yes that loophole still exists.

But I find this to be in very bad taste as you can drop a player you don't want with a high salary and not take a hit but the one that picks him up does. Not pointing a finger at geekor here just adding to his post. I find geekor to be an upstanding person!

Thanks guys. I am just seeing how last minute I can really go. A veteran manager I will not name dropped a player and before I could pick him up, he picked him back up. Oh well. I just want to be ready in case someone is dropped.

Has anyone posted this in the wish list/suggestions forum so this loophole can go away? Let me guess, the unnamed manager likes to talk about how great he is at SOMO.

Personally, I really don't care either way. In an 20xx league, anyone worth a damn is already gone at that point. If they are hoarding a player then drop last minute, they are more likely making their team worse.

IN ATG, that's a different animal. It sucks if they make a move and get no cap penalty, but then you would if you really wanted that player.

I don't take advantage, and I don't remember that move being effective in many many years. So either way, I am indifferent.

But as and developer, you would normally want as little loopholes as possible, for nothing else but making it look like you are trying to keep things fair. SOM sure does things backwards

I wasn't trying to gain an advantage, I was just fretting over my roster. However, I do remember seeing some managers use a real good starting pitcher on opening night and then drop him for another real good starting pitcher before the penalty kicked in.

I would only use the loophole if a GM dropped someone last minute, and I had my eye on that guy. I did end up dropping Nyjer Morgan for Tony Gwynn Jr., but I don't think that is going to give me a huge competitive advantage.

I was hoping a certain GM was going to drop a certain player. I sent that GM a message because I noticed he still had money in the bank and moves to make, I thought he might have had so many teams he had forgotten about this league, so I wanted to give him a heads up. He never responded with a "Thank You", which is a little annoying, but not a big deal.

I must say, I am psyched to be back. Some might remember me as either "rmilter" or "Stormcrow", and yes I can be an opinionated jerk, but I try to be extra polite almost all of the time....

I feel my current 2012 team may struggle for lack of power. I don't have ANY 20 (or more) home run guys on my roster. It could be a long season for that team,...doh!
