Why would HAL make these defensive substitutions?

In the 9th inning, HAL took out Ben Revere (who is a 1 in CF) and moved Ichiro from LF to CF (where he is a 2) and put Nyjer Morgan in LF (where he is a 3). I don't have any players marked as "Remove for Defensive sub" and I don't have any defensive subs designated in my Team Strategy. Revere wasn't injured or pinch hit for. I can't even guess why HAL would just weaken me at 2 positions just for the halibut ... Link below, anyone have any ideas?

I posted in January in the Wish List forum about this very topic.

I got one reply. Either these insane substitutions are rare, or people just don't care.

your telling Noah about the flood.

Hal pinch ran for Trout (injured) with J Montero then replaced Montero with Altuve and but E Cabrera in LF.

I stopped getting weird substitutions when I checked:

DON'T PINCH HIT FOR (both R/L) and DON'T PINCH RUN FOR

on ALL the guys that you DON'T want HAL to remove from the game.

Of course all bets are off when an injury occurs...

I do have those boxes checked for Revere.

Maybe we need a "Don't remove from the %#&%!^* game unless injured" box.

Here's a good one. Ninth inning , after a walk, E. Chavez pinch hits for W. Nieves (C), he reaches second on a single & error, D. Gordon (SS) pinch runs for Chavez. Pierzynski (C) pinch hits for the next batter, Ellsbury (CF). Due to an injury my only backup OF is DHing. At the start of the bottom of the ninth Gordon comes in to play . . . C and Pierzynski is my new CF! HAL definitely didn't try to give me the best defensive alignment possible. I understand not moving my DH to the outfield, that is HAL's normal M.O., but not having Pierzynski catch is beyond reasonable.

Another "great" HAL move. Gordon 3 e40 is brought in as a defensive replacement for Desmond 2 e19 in a tied game? I have the boxes "don't ph for" and "don't pr for" checked for Desmond and there wasn't an injury.

This one, however, is a substitution that HAL does fairly often. I agree it's stupid, but it happens time and time again so I can be avoided if you want to. Here's what happens, you pinch hit for your catcher (who homered!) so when the next half-inning started, HAL "evaluates" the defense, not just for the pinch hitter, but for the whole defense. He sees Revere as playing "out of position", since his primary carded position is RF. Now you already had a RF who only played RF. So, HAL (stupidly, I know) substitutes in Morgan (a primary CF), but then sees that better D would be with Ichiro in CF and Morgan in left.

So, how do you prevent this? When you construct your team make sure people play their primary positions. If that can't be done, try not to have anyone on the bench with your "out of position" starter's position listed as his 1st position. Bottom line is that, for your team, Morgan probably isn't a great fit for a cheap backup player.

"you pinch hit for your catcher (who homered!) so when the next half-inning started, HAL "evaluates" the defense, not just for the pinch hitter, but for the whole defense."

which is intolerable

who said "please evaluate my whole defense"?

if nothing else, game engine programmers who can do this: PLEASE STOP SWITCHING OUTFIELDERS FOR NO REASON
