Filling leagues - work together to make it happen!

Especially with standard $80 million 12 team DH leagues, please consider joining leagues that are closer to filling.

Please check out the "league directory", or my posts on this board, to see what leagues are nearer to filling. I will be editing my posts on this board from time to time, but the "league directory" will always be right up to date. Please check that, on the drop down menu under "Community" on the standard drop down menu for the online game.

Everyone can enjoy the leagues starting quicker!

I have one thought/suggestion. I wish that more vets would allow rookies into their league. I see a lot of leagues that are "veterans preferred" or "Vets Only". I learned a lot about how to play SOM just by watching vets play. I feel like sometimes these leagues get a bit clickish, where, unless they know you, you don't get in. I know they want to put together as competitive league as possible, but in order to build a stronger community, you need to continue to gain competitive, knowledgeable players.

I'll comment on that one.

That matters only for theme leagues, especially keeper leagues.

In theme leagues you want guys who will follow the rules and not complain when they are forced to. Being at this game since the 2002 season, a lot of vets have had issues with guys who joined, but ended up not wanting to follow the rules and ruin an entire league. Also, especially in keeper leagues, you want guys with a track record of not running away.

Example, there was a 2007-2011 keeper league we are just finishing up. We let one rookie in, figuring give them a chance. After 2 seasons he said he was done and we had to find a replacement, not the easiest thing to do always.

Of course not everyone is like that, but all it takes is one guy to ruin a league, which is why we all prefer vets.

I'm not as hard on people and typically let anyone in, but will say I prefer vets in any posting for the reasons listed above.

Thanks for your comments geekor.

I think you are also saying (I'll say it and you can respond if you want), that most leagues should be open to everyone - and I think they are for the most part. The point on keeper leagues is a good one. Generally, as kylerose256 says, newer players can benefit from playing along with the vets. I hadn't really noticed any "closed" theme leagues lately, and there are new keeper leagues looking for players (e.g. AL only Keeper League is looking for players right now!). So I'm not sure that it's a big problem right now anyway (kylerose256 maybe you can PM me if you want, or chat here some more as well).

Maybe also, as my original post is saying, if we do a good job (together) in getting leagues going in general, we may feel like we're getting a better mix of managers, and more satisfaction from playing regularly with leagues that fill up quickly.
