My feeling is a bit different than "1s being overpriced". I do think that in most situations there is a certain amount of diminishing returns that you get for spending on defense, especially at lower (< 100M) salary caps. I am a firm believer in having "good but not great" team defense. One or two 1s up the middle is usually a good idea, but hiding some bad defenders in the corners doesn't seem to hurt all that much compared to what you give up in additional salary to pay for all that defense. Sometime a 3 and 2b or ss can be a real good thing too, as long as you balance it out elsewhere else.
But, as others have said, let the experiment play out. Teams such as this can be a great learning experience.
Oh, and Rollins has absolutely SUCKED for me too. What is it what that card?
