Having played in a quite a few leagues now since returning to the game I think the name for the 2012 set should be " Got no clutch, but how about some dp's". I cannot recall a set where there have been so many dp's or hitters that total meltdown in the clutch. Could probably count on one hand the amount of good clutch hitters that are actually worth owning. Todays players obviously are not good in pressure situations if the cards are any ibdication.

tell that to the real life Freddy Freeman and Evan Gattis

Miggy Cabrera is hitting .475 with RISP.

Though I'm sure he'll be -25 clutch in the next set...

In just 1 of my 2012 leagues, the 12 teams are a combined 20-157 Clutch, and the top "clutch" hitter is Tyler Colvin who is 4-4!

if this is referring to the $ feature, I would say it is a misleading to call it "clutch" . it is a boost for bad hitters that are clutch at the expense of good hitters.

Clutch isn't clutch

it's an RBI "potential" fixer.

It's for people like say Ichiro back in the day, high average, who would get way too many RBI is you replayed the season. So the negative clutch fixes that.

Remember SOM at heart was to replay the season.

Positive clutch are guys who can't get enough RBI's on their own.

Figure most good cards will have some negative clutch.

The explanation by geekor concerns me--I understand it, but in a league where you draft, or even replay the same teams you are going to put you best ob pct guys in front of your best hitters---I thought it was a 2 outs runner in scoring position addition or subtraction to the batting average---if it is truly an RBI equalizer----that sucks.

I'm not wrong, that is how SOM does their clutch, it has absolutely nothing to do with RISP, or anything of the sort.

They make the cards so the season will replay as close as possible to real life. We take them and make then unrelaistic with 12 team leagues and salary caps.

But how they figure clutch in the cards is as a modifier to get RBI's close to real life when replaying the actual season. It's always been that way.

Because of what Geekor said, the clutch feature should absolutely NOT BE USED in on-line play or at all unless you are doing an "As Played" replay of the season. I always turn clutch off on the CD-ROM. This is one thing that should be fixed one of these years. Please On-line SOM GET RID OF THE CLUTCH OPTION, it is silly.... By the way, even if they did figure out the players' averages with two outs and runners in scoring position the sample size is so small.

The only clutch hitters I can think of that are over 5 million dollars are Torii Hunter and Tyler Colvin. I know a few of the backup/role type players have some positive clutch. I am sure there are more than Hunter, Colvin and the scrubs but I have either not notice them yet, or I forgot about them. Who are some hitters with positive clutch in this set?

I totally agree that this should not be used then. It is insane when your pitcher can mow through the Miggy, Brauns and Moss's of the whole game just to have some 1mil slap hitter come up and win the game against your Rodney's or Kimbrel's of the game. I guess one option is to get a few of these .200 hitters and use them as pinch hitters as they will go from being a .200 hitter to a .300 hitter with the $ advantage haha
