Need a LH Power hitter?

PostSun Jul 14, 2013 1:11 pm

I'm not sure I have a legitimate LH power hitter. I'm relying on Davis and Chavez. Colvin is out there but I'm not too high on him.

Heyward is out there, but it will a little more manuvering. Carroll and Ibanez seems to be extra parts and probably could downgrade Rodney. Here is my lineup v RH

Choo
Baxter
Pujols
Chavez
Desmond
Davis
Jaso
Utley
Fowler

Please pick apart.

I agree you lack LH power. IMO, If you play in that park you should be overwhelming RHP's. I don't like both Desmond and Pujols there. Davis can be very good, but at that price he is always susceptible to having bad year. Ditto Chavez. They can be very good but are not dependable to be so. There are not a lot of top notch LH power hitters, those that can both hit LH and RH. You really have to target one or two of those guys when drafting-Hamilton, LaRoche, Moss and Ortiz. If Ortiz is out there, maybe play Davis at 1B and DH Ortiz using Ibanez as a sub. G Jones and Kubel are good. G Jones usually gone, but Kubel can outperporm him.

I missed Moss, Fielder, and Stanton in AD. Thinking back I prbly should not have gone after Moss and had Fielder no 1 instead of 2. I went for it in hopes of landing both. All of the guys you mentioned are gone. I feel like I'm grasping at straws, thinking about guys like Dominguez, Morneau, and IDavis. Can't help thinking about Kubel batting .220, but if I need the power he might supply?

I'd pick up Pettitte right away and get rid of your three starters for under a buck (or at least two of them if you want to spot start Pomeranz against your other Progressive division foe. For the price Pettitte should excel for you.

Maximize Rodney, get rid of some of your relief dollars for Pettitte and potentially more batting power (not sure there are options anymore, so tighten up where you can). There's no way you use that much relief. Drop Belisario for someone like Jim Miller (under $1M, R2; he has some ballparks, but still is good profile for eating innings. I actually had Pedro Strop - who you dropped for him - put up great numbers in Progressive) and maybe Avilan as well for someone cheaper.

Personally I prefer Brantley over Jaso. I had success with a Morneua/Ka'aihue platoon. I'm not sure what your vs lhp lineup will be, but you could probably use a slight upgrade there.

That's a lot of platooning which can kill you late in games, but has worked for me in the past. Good luck.

You have gotten off to a fast start and that is a good thing. I would not change too much more now that the season has started. Every time you make a move from here on out, it degrades the value of your team. But if you feel you absolutely have to make a move (and I would not make a move lightly), you could cash in some of that money you have in your bullpen. That is overkill in my opinion. I do not like spending 6 million plus on a closer who may pitch 80 innings, if you are lucky. But that is just my three cents. You can score runs with that lineup in that park. The best of luck to you!

I dumped for Pujols for Heyward and then changed my mind to Morneau. I had extra cash and didn't know what to d o with it. There was nobody out there. I was considering Kubel, but couldn't see where he would fit, maybe for Choo, but I still had cash. I decided to dump it into my pitching staff. There are 4 Progressives in the league, so I figured I had enough flexibility to start all L-bal starters in a series, even if I have to go back to back. I know I probably have spent too much on pitching, but we'll see what happens.

You could have traded Pujols to someone for 2 players and not taken a hit. You might have gotten something for him or not. Here is the nugget. You trade him to a team out of your division that is in last place with nowhere to go but up. He beats up on teams above you and him and you get a player you want and dump the one you don't want and get the player you do want in FA without losing the cap.

I like chasenally's plan, if you could have gotten someone to trade. It is at least worth a try, and Pujols is a popular player.
