Last Minute Coors Advice

PostMon Aug 05, 2013 12:21 pm

First time doing a big hitters park like Coors:

Team: http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1110730
Leauge: http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/le ... ers/347048

plan was when Stanton is hurt, will move Hamilton to Rf and Holliday from DH to LF.

C: Nieves/Pierznski
1b: Canzler/Jones
2b: Rutledge
SS: Desmond
3B: Wright
LF: Hamilton
CF: Jones
RF: Stanton
DH: Holliday

I was also thinking, this might be better moves.

Drop Stanton, Harvey, Wright, Rutledge and pick up Cano, Butler, Harang and M Dominguez

Would turn into:

C: Nieves/Pierznski
1b: Canzler/Jones
2b: Cano
SS: Desmond
3B: Domingu
LF: Holliday
CF: Jones
RF: Hamilton
DH: Butler

It would get rid of the 3 injury risk, make my defense better at 2B, worse at LF and 3B, and lose my "ace" (if you can call him that) in Harvey.

Not sure as only my 4th team, but my first hitters park.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I think Cano is vastly over-priced. A huge price to pay for defense. He needs a platoon and he's not even maxed out.
Butler is a solid DH in this set.
Dominguez needs a platoon.
Harang is just ok.

What a lot of managers (I've been guilty too) do is Coors is usually go for all the big sluggers.
Coors is also a singles hitters park. So you need a mix of both pure hitters/ pure sluggers.

That being said... I think you look pretty solid. You have a nice mix of both.

Your back end of the rotation is very iffy, but that's the price you have to pay. You just hope you can out hit your competition.

My team @ Coors is starting tonight, no DH

C - Posey (Martin as backup), both 2
1b Encarnacion (Posey backup), both 3
2b Cano, 1
3b Miggy Cabrera, 4
SS Alexi Ramirez, 2
Lf Kubel, 4
Cf Victorino, 2
Rf Hunter, 1

a few poor defense spots, but their collective hitting should cover those shortcomings.

Pitching is real iffy: Vogelsong, Smyly, Millwood, Seddon, and Lannon.
I'm expecting a lot of 20+ run games

This is the 1st time I've got to use most of these players, got my fingers crossed

good luck!

You're wasting money on Martin as Posey's backup.

Also, while you have some nice hitters (Posey, Encarnacion, Cano, Miggy), I'd like to see more OB in front of them.

Thanks.

I've made some small changes, as I had no backup for 3B, and was leery of only one backup for both 2B and SS (as both are 15 game risks). So I dropped Holliday for Butler (they seem eerily similar in cards, except Butler can't play a lick of D), and picked up Mercer and Thames. Should give me enough backups for possible injuries this way.

@Chuck.Klein: looks like enough slugging, but not sure on the OBP. Other than Wright, don't see a lot of OB in the lineup. Might end up with too many 1 run HR's instead of some big innings. Butler is fine, but would love more OBP in the lineup. Like the bullpen, but would prefer one more arm in there as well.

@rolandzeut: Like Visick said, Martin is not needed, get a C that is .7 mil or less. As Visick pointed our, Cano is great vs RHP, and worthless vs LHP. You have even loss OBP through your lineups than Chuck does. Encarcion will hit a ton of HR, but typically his BA/OB becomes lacking, especially vs RHP. If you could somehow get a leadoff type hitter for your CF, I think the team would look a lot better. I take it this is a no DH league?

Would it make sense then to drop Harvey for Vogelsong and pick up A Jackson for A Jones?

Harvey can be a stud, but Vogelsong isn't bad for your park.

Jackson gives you defense and OB at the top of the lineup.

I'd always move in favor of hitting vs. pitching in Coors.

Thanks for the advice, new team:

C Posey, Suzuki as backup
1b Encarnacion, HR too tempting to give up
2b Espinosa, you guys scared me off Cano (extra $$ went to pitching staff)
3b Miggy
SS Alexi R
LF Kubel, Shakey D, but HR again too tempting
CF Jackson, big upgrade from Victorino
RF Hunter

SP Darvish, Buehrle, Millwood, Lannon, & Parker
RP Bellisario, Holland, Myers, Lopez, and Perez

I feel better about this combo, thanks again geekor & visick!

very last minute change Darvish for Vogelsong - hope I'm not outthinking myself!
