what do you think - franchise team league

Haven't ventured into the 20XX leagues often, but curious about whether anyone's ever suggested or tried a league of teams by actual franchise - e.g., the 2012 RedSox, 2012 Yankees, 2012 Cardinals, etc.?
Is that feasible?
My suggestion would be 12 managers sign up for the league, randomize the team draft order, and then place draft team 1 thru 4 in the same division, 5 thru 8 in the same division, and 9 thru 12 in the same division. Theoretically that way, it would be more competitive for the lower drafted teams. Does that make sense? Questions would be - cap size to keep it competitive, DH or not (I think so), ????
Any comments or advice?

Played in a 2012 theme league pairing two matched regional teams with a $100,000 cap. My team consisted of the Dodgers and Angels. The standings were pretty tight so it worked out.

A guy named Page2 used to run a single franchise league every year on the TSN site and it was quite fun and well balanced. I wish I could remember the exact rules, but If I'm not mistaken the gist was that each team got/had to keep x number of players from their current season's carded rosters. I want to say in the area of a little over halfway of each pitchers and hitters, with a little more hitters required than pitchers. The balancing factors were two fold. To fill up the rest of the roster you were allowed to draft guys that played for your team at any point and compete with the others for them. So a guy like Pujols for example could be drafted by the Angels or Cardinals. Also, you were allowed a few players from the general free agent market as long as they were under 2million in salary. It was very fun and really quite even no matter which franchise you chose, the obviously some were more sought after. I won with the Braves on year in a fairly off season for them. If any of you guys know how to find things in the old TSN forums, the guy who ran the league was Page2 or Page 2 I think and in the titles it had something to the effect of franchise league. I would be much more comfortable finding the real rules for that one in case my memory isn't correct, plus it was a tried and true method over several seasons. You could play whoever your favorite team was and compete.

there have been several leagues similar to that in 12 and 24 team league setups. there is usually a twisted reality league as well. i will certainly be all in for the league.

Unfortunately the Twisted Reality league did not occur this year. I was looking forward to it but it never appeared. I think it was 'mbrake' that did that league...not sure if he's still around. I also was in the Real Teams leagues that Page2 ran...but I don't believe it occurred this year either. Maybe there is an opportunity for a theme league now.

i was considering a 2 team 5 year franchise league. you would pick 2 teams in draft that you would keep for 2008 to 2012. each year we would have a draft for a 1/2 team of hitting or pitching. so if you take the reds and the yankees you would have them for all 5 seasons. you could switch your half team every year. would need 12 committed players. however i am generally finding that the boards are drying up as well as the filling in of leagues. too many leagues with 1 of 12 teams that just sit there.
anyways if there is any interest in me setting up a 5 year 2 1/2 franchise league please let me know.
