Lotsa Injuries

Wondered if I had run into a string of incredible bad luck or whether the injury settings are completly out of whack, or whether the game is doing this intentionally in the shortened demo season so you can get the hang of having to make adjustments on the fly. I'm currently in the process of playing the 21 game demo season. I've played a grand total of 9 games and I've already lost my starting 1st baseman for 3 games, my starting left fielder for 3 games, my starting 3rd baseman for 3 games and my starting right fielder for 6 games! I used to play Strat a great deal many many years ago and I don't think I've ever seen a stretch of injuries like this.

Play this game long enough and you'll have a season like you're having. Is it online baseball or an episode of M*A*S*H?

"Lucky" you to get a season like that right off the bat (bad pun intended).

Seriously, dude....you've just been lightly bitten. Prepare yourself for (at some time) losing your two best hitters for 15 games a piece plus your starting catcher for 10. STRAT's injury god is truly the wickedest in her pantheon....just a tad meaner than the nasty god of the blown 5+run 9th inning lead... :D

OK, I lost Carl Crawford for 3 games and he has an injury rating of 3. I then lost Rajai Davis for 6 games, he has an injury rating of 2. I then lost both Eric Hosmer and Ryan Zimmernam for 3 each. They both have injury ratings of 1green.

Now I understand, as was stated in a previous reply that over 162 game seasons your going to have players go down. But over 9 games losing 4 starters for semi extended time seems ridiculus. If nothing else it's familiarized me with the process of releasing players and picking up free agents. Over 162 games you obviously ride out small injuries, but in a 21 game season I haven't felt I can afford that luxury.

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it.

3 is the max games Hosmer and Zimmerman can be injured at one time. anything below a green 1 is 15 games.

That is why players with high injury numbers cost less. Draft lower injury number players and your chances of injury are lower. Utley is injured for 3 games all of time.

Things got even worse in game 10,lol Lost Crawford for 15 more games! I guess thats what the demo is for. Get your feet wet and hopefully learn a few thing. I know I've learned at least one. ;)

Thanks

Things tend to balance out over the course of a (162 game) season...

I use injury players all the time (and am frequently mocked for it, although I really don't care what others think)...injury players are of course priced accordingly, far cheaper than they would otherwise be...I have no problem building a lineup with three or four of these guys, which saves me a million or so which I can put into one solid bench guy who can cover for all three...this creates "value" -- players more valuable to your park, your roster and your style than they are on the open market (which is, IMO, the heart and soul of this game)...

But what if all three are injured at once? (say the others)...well, if that happens, HAL will put someone else out there and we'll still field a team...and that circumstance (multiple players injured for long stretches) has happened to me maybe four times in hundreds of teams...it's not the end of the world...

As long as you're prepared for injuries (with some of the money you save going to a strong and versatile bench), you'll be competitive over the course of a long season...

good luck to ya :}
