2013 Moss. Is he really this bad?

PostSat Apr 26, 2014 1:09 pm

Well, I pretty much always missed on Moss in the 2012 set, except one time and he put out one of the worst seasons that great card ever produced. So, I thought I would give him a shot in the new set. I shouldn't have. My team was at Progressive, probably the 2nd best park in the set for him, and his performance was terrible.

Moss .182/.262/.363 vs. his carded stats of .256/.337/.859. For 7.31 million I certainly expected a lot better. It's not like his awesome defense made up for it! So a nearly 500 point drop in OPS for a middle of the order guy. He batted 4th vs. RHP and 6th vs LHP usually. He's positive clutch, so it certainly wasn't that and actually rolled more on his own card than on the pitcher's cards. He was a bit unlucky in BP-SI, but about team average in BP-HRs. The only thing he did way better than his card was strike out!

Very disappointing and certainly played a huge role in my team's dismal performance. (although Drew, Phillips and Kelly Johnson did their part too. :) ) I assume he's done OK for others?

No, he isn't that bad. At least for me and this is at Citi.

Not so much, in 5 2013 leagues he was in the waiver pool in one, batted 30-40 points below his real numbers in OBP and AVG. Did SLG more closely to his actuals.

His card is .243 AVG, .384 OBP, .622 SLG vs R and an abysmal .122/.236/.422 vs L.

I have him in my first league and with 18 games remaining in the season he has 35 homers and 77 rbi hitting .218. He also is closing in on 200 strikeouts. I would not use him again and I think the feeling is the same among others as he sits in the FA pool in my two most recent leagues.

Just got cut in one of my leagues by Progressive team:
15 55 5 13 1 0 1 4 1 18 0 0 .236 .250 .309 .559
He did face my staff of Kershaw(1)/Baumgarner(2)/Sale(2)/Sherzer(1) six times in those 15 games.

I can't complain...

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/sim/1125414

.250ba,.326ob, .575slg Total

But...
.283ba,.367ob, .647slg vs RH's.

Plays 3 positions fairly well, + clutch and kills RH's. I'll take him while you guys can pass on him...

I agree visick he does do well against righties .274/.371 on my soon to finish team but his line vs lefties is .131/.193 I think his card is a bit pricey to be a platoon guy. Many better, cheaper options out there. Probably why he is still sitting in the FA pool in my last two leagues!

I'm thinking , based on the first batch of completed seasons, that the 2013 set is a pitcher's year. very, very deep in good cheap RP. Not many fluke BP power guys.

No complaints on Moss, although he is terrible vs LHP, he kills otherwise when it comes to power. He leads my league in HR and has a .592 slugging % and this thru 150 games (only 36 games vs lefties to date). If I play another 2013 season will definitely want Moss.
