As to Moustakas, I haven't kept up on analyses of his swing or current mental makeup. But it's probably a case of him not being as bad as he is now, but also not as good as people thought he was or was going to be. His OBP was below .300 before this season, and even in his best season (2012) he had a .242/.296/.412 line...so we're not talking about a great player.
Since he was a top 5 pick, and he has produced in the past, KC still does and should hold hopes for him. It's ironic, however, that his high school teammate, Matt Dominguez, who was drafted later in the round and was considered a lesser prospect, has arguably become a more productive major leaguer.
