Of all the things we complain about in this great game, the lack of pinch hitting by Hal in DH leagues may be one of the most legitimate problems! Come on Hal, we set up pinch hitters for a reason, use them please! I would like to see slots for more pinch hitters and a new more proactive approach to pinch hitting!

Avoid check boxes have absolutely no effect on players already in the game.

Do away with the "Don't PH" for and "Avoid PH in Blowouts". Replace them with a "PH for against LH", "PH for against RH" options (7th inning or later) and "Don't PH for when leading".

Let me play Devil's advocate here.

You had a runner on 3rd with 1 out. Really you are playing for the tie, not a win. All you need is a single, sac fly, etc.

Question is, who would you have wanted to PH vs that RHP for you? Mind you that Balfour is a 4L and much better vs LH hitters.

Only Infante (who really should be starting, not sure why Murphy, who is a worse hitter and much worse defensively is starting) is a real improvement at that spot. Then that would for a change from a 1 to a 3 at SS for the extra innings.

I don't know if HAL looks at that or not, but I would probably leave him in as well. Also did you have him set as don't PH for?

Lastly who is you PH vs RHP in your team settings? If it is someone you're platooning, and is already in the game (like Lind) then there is no one to call.

Escobar is set to avoid both R&L unchecked don't pH for. Napoli on bench would have been a good option there vs balfour. Also Galvis to play SS is good def.
All what you say makes perfect sense. Like I said YE came thru anyways.
As for Infante, extra lefty vs Kuroda and trying to keep healthy for playoffs. And when HAL is up to his game Galvis will come in after the 7th.
I think question still remains does HAL do a good job with pinch-hitting?

Hal does do a poor job of pinch hitter decision making. But You have stated twice aht you have "Escobar is set to avoid both R&L". I have found that contradictory instructions such as that tend to confuse Hal's logic as it would mine if you gave me that kind of instruction. Indeed if you want him to avoid both left and right hand pitching why is he in the game. If the avoid setting is going to trigger a pinch hitter for him then wouldn't that mean he never gets to hit? Hal would pinch hit for him first time up.

In a one run game in the 9th I don't want Escobar to bat no matter who is pitching so I have tried everything which as brought me to this point, no complaints just wondering what others feel or do. I expect and accept its not perfect but darn close.
