This week's poll/thread resembles last week's, with music taking the place of film in the second part. In the first part, please list who you consider the ten greatest second basemen since WWII. If anyone is curious why I make this demarcation, it is because the post-war boom sped up the incorporation and modernization of baseball. From that boom onward, baseball would move towards the billion-dollar industry it has become. It would never again be considered "just a game."

The second part is choosing the greatest rock bands of all time. Yes, you can just put down your favorites if you like. But, if you can, try to choose the ten you consider the greatest even outside your personal preference. You can choose any standards you like. However, the standards I use are;

1. Songwriting
2. Musicianship
3. Innovation
4. Longevity
5. Influence

Greatest Second Basemen
1. Ryne Sandberg. The Platonic ideal of a Second Baseman. Sublime D, Potent O, and even speed.
2. Roberto Alomar. Elegant, quick, and lethal. Better pure hitter and defender than Morgan.
3. Joe Morgan.
4. Robinson Cano. Best of the millennium. He could end up best of the Modern era.
5. Jackie Robinson. Short but dynamic stay at 2b. The first modern disruptor.
6. Craig Biggio.
7. Jeff Kent. Mediocre defender, but the most dominant offensive 2b since Hornsby.
8. Lou Whitaker.
9. Bill Mazeroski. The inverse of Kent. Mediocre hitter, but sublime defender...best ever at the position.
10. Bob Grich

Greatest Rock Bands of All Time
1. The Beatles
2. Radiohead
3. Led Zeppelin
4. R.E.M.
5. The Rolling Stones
6. U2
7. Metallica
8. The Band
9. The Clash
10. Guns & Roses

Ryno was great and I thought he should have been first ballot HOF, but very difficult to rank any modern 2B over Morgan.

How come Jetrho Tull and or Ian Anderson are not in the so called Rock 'n Roll HOF. They must be Thick as a Brick or am I Living in the Past maybe we need a Benefit for them.
Anyways
Joe Morgan and The Beatles nobody else close

Yours Truly
The Fool On The Hill

I get the love for Joe; that's why I had him third. I saw him eliminate the Dodgers at Candlestick with a home run in 1982. However, Ryno hit for a higher average, hit more homers, and was a superior defender. Joe did have greater speed and a higher OBP, but I'll take Ryno's hitting, pop, and sublime defense.

As to Jethro Tull, I can't say I have ever been a fan, but perhaps there is a rule against flutes in the HOF bylaws... ;)

Seems they have a rule against prog-rock in general. King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Moody Blues, Genesis, Gentle Giant etc. Pink Floyd the only such band to be the exception

Beatles and Roberto Alomar. Really wish my idiot Padres hadn't dealt him. Same for Baerga.
